Tired Hands Milkshake Clone - Feedback please!

Seems like there aren't a lot of good clones for a milkshake IPA, but this is my best bet after sending a week reading a few clues found around the internet. I also will use 2 granny smith apples pureed into the boil (To add pectins). I plan on splitting the 2.5 gallons into 1.25g, put...

First time BIAB. A few questions

Hi there... I've been brewing 5 gallon batches for quite a few years, but I just don't drink enough these days to brew batches that big. Plus I love the idea of experimenting with random styles, so I am ready to dive into 1 gallon (maybe 1.5g for a 12 pack?) BIAB. A few questions: 1. Are...

Small batch brewing. 1g to 2g

Anyone have any experience with smaller batch brewing? (1g-2g?) I am looking to get back in to brewing a lot in 2017. I realize my problem in the past is that 5 gallon batches end up sitting in my kegs forever. That and I would borrow a friends equipment. I would like to start doing smaller...

    BeerSmith Pre-Boil Volume

Hi there... My pre-boil estimate is 6.22 gallons for a 5.5 gallon batch.. somehow I think that is off hah. Check the screenshots below and let me know if I messed up somewhere? I did add a custom piece of equipment.. could that be where the error is?

Feedback on my Tree House IPA Clone

This is loosely based on Julius, but I am mostly going for the massive "hop juice" profile tree house achieves, as well as the hazy character. Please let me know your thoughts! Batch Size: 5.50 gal Boil Time: 60 min Efficiency: 75.00 % Mash In: 150.0F for 60 min Yeast: DIPA Conan - Omega ABV...

    BeerSmith - Steep/Whirlpool. How Accurate?

Hi there.. two part question. 1. How accurate is the hop addition calculation at steep/whirlpool? I entered in an ounce of citra, for 30 minutes, and it is telling me 30ibus from that? Is that correct? 2. Can you modify the temperature at which you add the "steep" hops... I was going to do...

Does anyone brew batches smaller than 5 gallons?

Does anyone brew batches less than 5 gallons? If so any tips? I'm looking into brewing more 2 or 3 gallon batches. While I realize it is just as much work as a 5 gallon batch I want to be able to experiment a bit more with smaller batches.

    Roasted pumpkin in secondary?

I made a belgian pumpkin ale about 18 days ago, and just racked it to a secondary (carboy) with some vanilla beans that soaked in bourbon. I would like to get more pumpkin flavor in the beer. Can I put roasted pumpkin in the secondary? If so, for how long would you do it? Sorry I tried...

Using pumpkin in the mash... Mix it all together? Cubes?

Sorry I did try searching for this answer in particular, but didn't find anything. When you use pumpkin in your mash.. two questions 1. I read that most people "mash" the pumpkin before putting into the mash. What if you left it in cubes as to not make the sparge more of a PITA? I would roast...

Going to be in the 6-7% ABV range, but looking for a good yeast? Maybe something with a clove kick? Thoughts?

Looking to make a mash-tun for 2 gallon batches

Wondering if anyone regularly brews smaller batches? I don't drink enough these days to brew 5 gallon batches, and want a smaller set up that I can do on my stove-top. Question is, what type of mash setup should I go with for 2 gallon batches? Just a smaller homemade cooler mash tun? A tall...

First time using white oak. How much and when?

Anyone ever use the spiral white oak? It's all they had at the local homebrew shop. I am making a 5gallon clone of jai alai white oak ipa, and was wondering how much you would use? And when? Thanks!

    Red Wheat Malt

Pretty basic question but.. has anyone ever used it? If so what types of beer have you used it in? Local homebrew shop just starting carrying it, and it looks interesting. Thinking about trying some of it in my recipe that is loosely based on a gumballhead clone

    Substitute for Belgian Candi Sugar?

I am making a Raging ***** clone (Belgian IPA), and would like to try using a different sugar. It is only .5lbs in a 5.5 gallon batch. Would Demerara or Turbinado work well? Planned on adding with 5 min left in the boil. Thanks!

Blueprint for Gravity Sculpture similar to morebeer 1000?

In the prelim stages of making my own brew sculpture, and have done a ton of reading thus far. Decided a 10g gravity system is going to be my best bet for what I am looking to do. I am having trouble finding anything as far as measurements, type of metal used etc. And yes I tried searching...

Using Citra hops. Early/Late in boil?

I am brewing a beer loosely based off of Flying Dog Raging ***** (Belgian IPA)... Wanted to put my own twist on it with some citra hop. Any recipe I find that uses citra hops, ends up using them late in the boil (15 min and later). Any reason for this? Anyone ever use it earlier in the boil? If...

    Beersmith2.. 100.9% Mash Eff?

What did I enter in wrong here... This is a tamed version of a Raging *****/Gumball head clone that I made last year (which turned out awesome by the way). But does 100.9% mash eff sound right? Something seems off here.. This is a screenshot of my beersmith2 recipe.. (My first time using the...

My Belgian IPA turned out way too hoppy, what to do now?

Okay so long story short, the beer is carbonated and read to drink, but its WAY too hoppy. Even my buddy who is a hop head said wow, this is too much hah. So the question is, what can I do now? I was thinking about putting in a lb of pureed mango? Any suggestions are welcome. If interested...

No activity after 4 days. Using Wyeast 1388

So its been four full days now, and I am getting no activity in my Belgian IPa (recipe used is below). This is only my 4th homebrew so admittedly I had looked over the fact that I should have used a starter. What are my options now? Unfortunately I do not have a homebrew shop in driving distance...

    Gumballhead/Raging ***** Hybrid recipe. Thoughts?

Lately my new thing has been has been mixing beers of different, but closely related styles. One day I mixed half of a Three Floyds Gumballhead (American Pale Wheat Ale) with half of a Flying Dog Raging ***** (Belgian IPA). On their own their are two of my favorite beers, but together it was...
