Did I mess up? Carbonating with yeast cake/trub still in

I recently got the spike conical, and my first batch in it was done fermenting this week. I cold crashed it wednesday/thursday (it's in an upright freezer), then last night I put on carb stone attachment and hooked up CO2 @ 10psi to carbonate it. This morning I realized I never dumped the...

    Do John guest fittings swivel?

I'm looking at changing over to john guest fittings, these two: (ffl and BSP) http://www.ritebrew.com/SearchResults.asp?Extensive_Search=Y&Search=john&Submit.x=0&Submit.y=0 the ffl and the shank. Simple question, do those swivel? Also, those two fittings clearly have a different sized...

    Kids and keezers

I have a keezer again after a long hiatus, but this time, I have a 3 and 2 year old. The 3 year old I think I can have a talk with and not worry, but the for the next year or so I worry the 2 year old might open some of my taps on the keezer. I (and them) piddle a lot in the garage/outside, so...

    Deep cleaning grimey faucets.

I scored a free keezer on Craigslist, and it has 4 perlicks that are majorly funky. Just tons of caked up sediment and flakey grossness in the faucets. I currently have them completely broken down and sitting in hot water with PBW, but not sure if that's gonna complete the task. I assume I'm...

Very easy mini fridge ferm. chamber build

I built this years ago, and it worked great.. thought I'd pass it along since I recently came across pictures tucked away deep in my dropbox. I had a small mini fridge, but wanted to be able to hold more than one bucket/carboy. I had recently done a remodel on my kitchen, so had an extra base...

What should I brew based on this criteria?

After brewing for about 4 years, I took a 5 year 'break'. In that time I've moved to CO, had two kids and acquired a brew system from my uncle. I'm looking for suggestions on what to brew for my return to brewing batch based on two things: grain I have on hand and ferment temp. Inventory...

Ultimate brew day and colorado beer trip. Lots of pics

Think I posted some pics before of my uncles brew set up.. well just got back from a 5 day trip to Denver over spring break, and Sunday was brew day for my uncle and me, first time I've ever seen him in action. I had a huge surplus of hops here in Houston, so I overnighted some to him the week...

Online HBS's w/ no flat shipping?

are there any online hombrew stores that don't have a flat shipping (or a min. free shipping)? For times I want to buy small things, say some stoppers or a bag of dry yeast, my main place AHS, doesn't make economical sense with their $8 shipping for a couple small $1-$5 items. same with my LHBS...

    My keezer build.. pics

Also in DIY section. Well I decided to hold off on posting any pictures until I really felt my keezer was done. I scored the chest freezer itself off craigslist back in Dec, for $75. I've measure the internals, and the compressor hump, and it comes out to about 8.5 cu.ft. Anyway, here's the...

    good idea for keezers

I know a lot of people put in computer fans and such to help circulate air around the keezer.. while that in itself is a great idea, I came across this and ordered it, thought I would share. Wire shelf The finish has a lifetime guarantee against corrosion, and is about 1/5 of the cost of...

Will this work in place of a 2nd regulator?

Hopefully this works, but here's my idea. I'll hook it up this weekend and see how it goes. First off, I have a manifold like this: http://www.homebrewhq.com/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=2257 they are modular, so you just add on how ever many you need, using a double 1/4" NPT nipple in...

    I'm not a newb.... but,

I can't seem to answer this basic question: when I keg, I fill with co2 to purge the oxygen using the relief valve on keg. But, when I bottled, I just added priming sugar and capped, leaving an oxygen headspace. why does that oxygen headspace not ruin the beer?

and I've come across many recipes, but none of them seem to have done the most basic research: Check the new belgium website for ingredients: http://www.newbelgium.com/beer/detail.aspx?id=7c5b394b-d7b7-486a-ac9a-316256a7b0ee ABV - 5.2% IBU - 18.5 Calories -155 Hops - Willamette, Goldings...
