Don't laugh it's paid for brew fridge

OK time to have a laugh. Here is my on-the-cheap brew fridge. Inkbird 308 and 2 heating plates. My first attempt, we'll see I suppose!

WTB Grolsch pink rubber NOS gaskets

Hi, looking for NOS Grolsch-style rubber gaskets, not the new shiny style. The ones I am looking for are dull pink, almost rough cut, unlike the new red silicone versions. Thanks

2 identical batches one airlock not seated tight

Hi everybody, I made two identical batches this weekend, one Saturday, one Sunday. The batch on Saturday was not as vigorous bubbling today (Monday) compared to Sunday's. Puzzled, I pressed down on Saturday batch airlock and it started bubbling to match the latter batch. I thought I had it...

    Anvil fermenter with heating pad?

I am wondering if the 7.5 gallon Anvil fermenter works with 25W heating pad? I realize bottom is plastic base, but would warmth rise through it? Pad works great with glass carboy. Just fishing for ideas, and if pad would work, may be economical upgrade from heavy carboy. Thanks

    FermZilla or Catalyst

Hi All, looking for suggestions. Both FermZilla and Catalyst conical units look nice, anyone have experience with both that can tell me pros/cons? I am non CO2, just looking for something easier than my carboys. Thanks.

    EZ liter bottle crate?

Hi, Anyone know of an aftermarket carrier/crate that I can buy to store my EZ Liter bottles? The cardboard is wearing quickly. Something like a sturdy plastic milk crate that will carry 12 bottles?

    Flip top gaskets material

Hi. I have a question on flip top gaskets. I recently purchased new rubber gaskets and they are really shiny red and look silicone-like. In my beer fridge I found a NOS package of gaskets that look like the original gaskets, more pinkish and rubber-like. What is the difference and are the NOS...

Why does homebrew seem stronger than store bought?

An old time brewer here, but recently started brewing again after many years away. This forum is great and I have a stupid question. Why does even low ABV beers give me more buzz than store bought? Anyone else notice this? I intentionally make 4.7-5.4% ABV these days so I can drink several...

Looking for secondary fermentor brand recommendations

Hi all, only those who secondary need respond as I don't wish to argue on whether to do it or not as I still do (since 1998). I am looking for an easier way to secondary as I'm still in the 1990's using carboy and transfer tube. So many new ideas these days. I was looking at the Anvil 7.5...

    Flat beer with carbonation drops

I have been trying the Cooper's carbonation drops, 3 to a liter, and so far not pleased. Before I criticize the product, I am wondering if just using one packet of yeast for 5 gallons is my problem? Perhaps there is not enough yeast left to convert sugar drops? Reviews have been mixed on the...

Dry yeast one packet or two?

Hi guys, simple answer will suffice as I a simple guy. I am confused on latest packets of Fermentis Saflager S-23 and their other dry lager yeasts. I have exact packets that read (basically enough for) " to 30 litres", while other packets (of S-23) read "to 15 litres". I make 5 gallon...

Which to brew this weekend, lager or ale?

I have 2 kits waiting on me, Helles Half Acre lager and Bass ale clone. Just bottled one Dortmunder and another Dortmunder clone in secondary. Decisions decisions!

    second batch in secondary

Hi again, I just transferred my second batch of brew, a Dortmunder "clone" this time, again from Austin Homebrew. It was almost the same kit as the first AHB Dortmunder, which I recently bottled, with some kit exceptions. This batch I tried W34/70 yeast instead of S23, just experimenting...

Anvil 7.5 Fermentor used with Cozy heating pad?

Hi All. Does anyone have experience with the Anvil Fermentor and can it be used with a Cozy heating pad? I started in the late 1990's using old-school glass carboys, recently got back into brewing and still using my glass now. Thanks

S-04, US-05, or Danstar Windsor yeast for Burton/Bass Ale kit?

Hi, I've been looking through the forum for 2 hours and no luck. Anyone have experience with a Burton/Bass Ale extract kit and the dry yeast used? It came with Danstar Windsor. Is this good or should I go with Fermentis strains? Thanks

    Higher ABV than I predicted

Hi, I just transferred my (first batch in 18 years) Dortmunder lager extract #03537 from Austin Homebrew into secondary and it's showing 8% ABV. Followed the instructions/ingredients to a T. Sampling the hydrometer test tube it seems smooth. This is not truly a surprise as nearly all our beers...

Dry lager yeast in hard water?

Hi, sorry for a stupid question, but do you folks have any recommendations/thoughts for dry lager yeast in hard well water? I am just getting back into brewing (18 year hiatus) and I made my first batch of Dortmunder yesterday with Saflager S-23. It seems to be doing OK today? But, if there is...

    Rusty brewer from New Mexico

Hi, just found the forum. I brewed many extract kits back in the mid 1990's into 2001, when at that time my son was born. Nothing since then... I did keep all my equipment and have recently decided to get back into it. So much has changed! Equipment has improved, extract kits have now become "no...
