Dry hopping & cold crashing. When to pull the hop sack?

I've been dry hopping a fresh squeezed inspired IPA for 6 days and getting reading to cold crash. I'm using pellet hops in a mesh hop sack. When cold crashing, I can either leave the hop sack in for the first day or two and then pull the sack and let cold crash another day. OR I can pull the...

    Any problems with scorched wort?

I've brewed with propane for the last few years but have thought about building a small electric system, maybe? One thing I'v thought and wondered about is if you have experienced and have had to deal with scorched wort given it's in direct contact with the element?? For those that have...

    Tank to tank refill???

I have (1) 5lb Co2 tank inside my 3 tap keezer. I'm looking for another tank to carb a newly kegged beer or purge the collection ball on my fermenter of O prior to changing, without having to open up and/or remove the tank from my keezer. I was initially looking for another 5lbs tank for...

Favorite recipe for Wyeast 1056 American Ale??

I bought some 1056 for an IPA then changed my mind and decided to pitch a different yeast. So now I have a 1056 sitting in the frig needing something to do... What is your favorite recipe in which you use 1056??

How long can you go before pitching??

Got an IPA in the fermenter this afternoon and realized I have the wrong yeast strain for this recipe... DOH! I could pitch what I have but would rather pitch the strain that was intended for this recipe. I won't be able to get the "right" strain until tomorrow mid-day. How long can a...

    Silly little mistakes....

I was feeling pretty good. Got a new batch kegged earlier today and now just sitting here watching the Atlanta Falcons have a killer second half against Dallas. All of a sudden, it dawned on me. I DIDN'T BLEED THE KEG OF AIR BEFORE PRESSURIZING IT WITH CO2!!! Have you ever had a few...

    Cold Crash Extreme

This past Tuesday, we were to leave for a few days of R&R in Florida. I thought, what a better time to cold crash my latest batch and when I get back, I can keg it! Monday afternoon, I put the fermenter in the frig and set the built in temp controller on about the same setting the worked well...

I've got the stuck sparge blues...

I batch sparge with a 10 gal round beverage cooler with a domed false bottom. Stuck sparges have become a fairly common occurrence for me on brew day. Usually it's not a big deal. I just break up the grain bed, let it re-settle, then resume sparging. But today, I had to use a large spoon to get...

    Beer lines between batches

After kicking a keg then cleaning and rinsing the beer line, what's the best state to leave the beer lines in if not able to immediately re-connect another full keg? I know... I got lazy and don't have another full keg ready... :( Anyway, let's say the beer line will sit 2-4 weeks between...

Primo "Fill It Yourself" bottled water from Wally World??

Up to this point, I have purchased bottled Spring Water for my AG brewing. I haven't spent the time or mental energy to dive into and understand water chemistry/ water building aspect of brewing. My questions is around the "fill it yourself" service that many Wally World locations provide. I...

My HB supply line is finally healthy! How about yours??

I completed a 3 tap keezer build in March and was determined to build up my supply line. As of today, all 3 taps are flowing, I have a 4th keg on deck (on the hump) and a 5th keg in the hole chilling in a separate frig. Plus, I have a batch in the chamber fermenting as we speak! I can finally...

    Kegging and cold crashing??

I have seen several folks mention that they cold crash prior to racking into a keg. I see the need for cold crashing prior to bottling but not sure I see the need for it prior to kegging?? What do you do and is there a benefit to cold crash prior to kegging??

    Re-pitching yeast

For those that re-pitch yeast what is a general rule of thumb for dividing yeast from a previous 5.5gal batch? Divide in half to re-pitch on the next batch? Assuming the yeast collected is less than 1 week old and being stored in the frig. Also assuming I'll be re-pitching on batches under 1.060.

    Sweating Coffin!!

I recently completed a keezer build. First off, tell me it ain't awesome to have beer on tap!! :D Anyway, I'm very happy with the build but I have one issue that is going to be a problem long term if I don't figure out a fix.... :( The coffin top has a hinged rear access hatch so I can get...

To keggle or not to keggle

I bought a 15.5 gal keg from an antique dealer who bought a lot at an auction and the keg happened to be in the lot. So can we put the ethical argument aside?? At some point, I plan to step up and brew 10 gal batches on occasion but will continue to brew 5 gal batches mostly. My question...

    Keg dry hopping

Hello keggers, I kegged an IPA this past weekend. It's still a little green but it's getting there. The hoppy taste is right on. However, it's missing the hoppy smell. I have heard of folks adding hops to the keg. How much and for how long should I add it?? I just want to add a little...
