Over 100 batches with my DIY EBIAB system

While brewing yesterday I realized that I was brewing batch number 108 with my homemade EBIAB system. Never had any problems at all and the only thing I have ever done is open it up and make sure all the connections were still tight (they were). Inspiration was from this forum so thank you.

    BIAB with 2 bags?

Just thinking out loud here. I EBIAB and use a Wilser bag and am thinking about using 2 bags. One for the mash and one for the boil. I would put both bags in the kettle at the beginning, add the grain and after the mash remove just the top bag. Then I proceed to the boil, adding hops, etc. and...

    Phosphoric Acid dilution question

I finally ran out of my diluted (20%) Phosphoric Acid and can't find my notes on how I diluted the 85% I started with. I took a solution of 85% PA and added distilled water until the SG read 1.110 at 62 degrees. Is this a decent method for diluting the acid? How close am I to getting the 20%...

Anyone have the McMaster PN for a PRV Valve?

I have searched through the McMaster Carr sticky and cannot find a part number for the PRV seal. Anyone have the correct number for this? Over the last 5 brews I have had 3 of them split and leak. Paying $4.95 for the whole assembly is getting tiresome and expensive.

Ramping up lager yeast temp after 9 days

Last Friday I brewed a lager using WY2124 and have it fermenting at 50 degrees now. The Wyeast website says its good from 45-68 degrees. Next Sunday I want to brew a batch that uses WY1968 which is good from 67-71 degrees. I only have 1 fermentation chamber. My question is if I ramp up the...

    Weird behavior with Brun Water

When adding CaCl I get some really odd numbers. For example... In image 1 I have added .3 gypsum and 1 CaCl and the adjusted water profile correctly shows 30.9 Calcium and 21.9 chloride. These are the totals from the column additions below. Now in image 2 I have left the gypsum at .3 and...

Something has changed and I can't figure it out

I would appreciate some help/guidance here. First let me admit I am not a 'science' guy. I have absolutely zero training or experience in these things so it will be pretty easy for you guys to quickly go over my head. Now on to the issue at hand. I have used Brun water for a couple of years now...

The beer that refused to be brewed

The beer that refuses to be brewed. So, I decided to brew a Dunkels Weizen. Got the grains and yeast at my local LHBS and proceeded to build my starter. The stir plate stopped working about 6 hours later. Put the starter in the refrigerator while waiting for a new stir plate to arrive (the...

Changing out a SYL2352 with a DSPR 300 wiring question

After about 100 brew sessions my SYL2352 stopped working because it got covered in hot sticky wort (don't ask, just know that all my hoses have hose clamps on them now :)) and I am switching to a DSPR300 and I have a few questions regarding the connections. I think the following is correct...

    Bayou Classic Strainer Basket Disaster

I use my Bayou Classic stainless steel strainer basket to pull the bag from the wort. I have drilled extra holes in it to drain better and it worked great for over 50 batches..... Saturday I was making a slightly higher OG beer so I had a few extra pounds of grain in the bag and the bag was...

Beersmith just released the new version

Just received an email about a Beersmith update. Here's the link to the new/improved features. Looks like they were listening to the comments made on this forum as well as the Beersmith forum. http://beersmith.com/blog/2016/08/07/beersmith-2-3-update-new-features-detailed-overview/

Importing recipes to new Brun water version

I'm not a Excel guy and would appreciate some guidance here. I have searched for the answer to this question and can't find it. I have a lot of recipes under some very old versions of Brun water. Since the latest version has more options I would like to open my old grain bills, etc. in the...

Is there a way to test a pH probe?

This is kind of long because of the level of detail... I use Brun water and in the beginning always tested the mash pH. After many batches I decided that Brun water was pretty darn close and the pH testing was not necessary. Fast forward to my last couple of brews and I decided to check...

Looking for line cleaning pump recommendations

I have a 6 tap kegerator and when I daisy chain all the taps together to clean the lines I only get a small trickle at the end faucet. I have tried a submersible sump pump, a condensate pump and the latest is a little Giant window cooler pump. They all will get the cleaning solution through...

    Using liquid CaCl question

I have the version of Brun water that allows the use of liquid CaCl. I measured by SG and know the solution is 13%. My question is about the measurement. The spreadsheet does not change the 'type' of measurement and for example shows to use 12.16 grams of liquid CaCl. Is that correct? I use...

    Anyone using the Untappd API

I would like to look into putting one of the Untappd API's on my website/taplist but don't have a clue how/where to start. If anyone is using their API and willing to share the code, I would really appreciate it.

    Is this yeast?

I bought a pack of WY3522 from the LHBS and when I got home I noticed the mfg. date was pretty old. Using the online pitching calculators one said the viability was 0% and another said .6%. I went ahead and put it on the stir plate and this is what it looks like after 3 steps. There are...

    Doing the unthinkable

I have a recipe for a Belgium Double that is great but the alcohol content is so high you really have to be careful when you drink it. I would like to keep the flavor as close as possible and reduce the alcohol content. As I understand it if I reduce the amount of grain (keeping the...

I need help finding a ball valve part

I have a ball valve from brewhardware and after many batches I noticed that one of the teflon washers in the ball valve has some scratches (along with some black stuff in the scratches). I have looked and cannot find a part number for the washer. I can't be the only one who ever looked for this...

Never bottled before. Will this work?

I have brewed over 60 batches but never bottled a batch but now I need to bottle a 5 gallon batch for a wedding this coming weekend. Since I can't fit 2 cases of empty bottles in my frig. or kegerator can I put them in a cooler with some water and a couple of bags of ice? My plan is to add...
