    Coconut Porter w/ Sabro

Thinking about doing a coconut porter and looking to use Sabro in the dry hop along with dried coconuts. Am I crazy? I have a half a pound of it left and would like to experiment with it a bit.

    Southern Passion Hops

I bought a pound recently and am wondering what people think of this variety. What flavors do you perceive? Is it potent? I am planning on making an IPA with it.

How to dump trub out of a conical without making a mess

Any suggestions? I have a Spike cf5 with a 2-inch butterfly valve and a 90 attached to the bottom. When I open the valve into a 5 gallon bucket, shiatzu sprays everywhere. I have thought about putting on a reducer, say a 2 to 1/2”. Eventually I will get the yeast brink from NorCal, but am...

    Tap Spacing

I finally bought my shanks and faucets to complete my keezer build. For now I plan on using three taps with plans on adding a fourth in the future. My faucets are Intertap FCs. My question is what is the spacing do y’all use from center to center? I have it pencilled in at 4” but have read...

Is anyone growing this variety? It’s said to be “Citra’s little sister”. I am setting up a new trellis and am thinking about planting these.

    Cheap Coffee Grinder

On the weekends I enjoy brewing a pot of coffee with my French press. I buy a lb of beans from the store and grind it there. That lb will last me a month if not more. Towards the end of the lb the flavor drops off as expected. I think that if I buy the beans whole and grind when needed, my...

Requesting input on which hop to buy

So I am going to restock my hop inventory for the year and am looking to buy a pound of some hop variety. As of now I have a new pound of Galaxy, Mosaic, Citra. In storage around 4 oz: Simcoe, Amarillo, Nelson as well as 8 oz of Columbus. I brew mostly IPAs, NEIPAs and hoppy cream ales. I...

    2017 Citra Hops...Can’t find any

So it is time for me to stock my inventory and am looking for 2017 Citra hops. I have looked around on the interwebs and can’t find any. Is there a reason? Am I too late? All other varieties are available.

    EFFFING DISASTER!!

So I decided to brew a GMC NEIPA. Everything went great, I hit all of my numbers and it was going to be a 4 hr brew session from start to finish thanks to my new submersible pump for my IC. Started moving from my BK to Fermenter and then $&@@&!!!!!!@&!’. The BK was on my bench in my garage and...

    Harvested Yeast Cake

Normally I overbuild starters to harvest yeast. But when I wanted to brew, I didn’t follow the 7 “P’s” and therefore I didn’t have enough DME to make a starter. Fast forward two weeks, I had about 12 oz of beer after kegging. I swirled the trub and all, and poured it in to 2 - quart size mason...

    Purging with fermentation gas

I was wondering if it would be possible to purge a star San filled keg with gas created during fermentation? My plan would be to hook my blow off line to the gas in post on a filled keg. Then hook up another line from the out post to an empty bucket/ keg. Anyone try this? Could this be done?

    What grains should I buy?

I received a grain mill and a 50# sack of two row for Christmas. I am wondering what other grains I should buy? I am not sure if I really need another 50# sack of another grain, maybe 5# or 10# of a different varieties. I brew IPAs, NEIPAs, and Cream Ales. I will be getting 10# of flaked...

    Just My Luck

So there is a big party the 26th of August, and was going to brew a NEIPA on the 6th. Quick turnaround, but with the right yeast and technique I could have done it. My plan was to get grain today and brew tomorrow. I went to a new to me LHBS and was impressed, there prices were a bit higher...

    Leafhoppers

I am really proud of the progress I have made with my hops so far this year. I have finally made it to the top with 3 if the six plants that I have (first time in 5 years). But, I am currently in some what if a crisis. *i have not done a soil test* I noticed that one of my Newports...

How long to store milled grain

I am planning to grab enough crushed grain from my LHBS for 3 batches. With how much I brew, I would be storing the final recipe for two months. I will vacuum seal once I get the ingredients home, and maybe store them in the chest freezer. So can I store crushed grains that long? Will they...

    Anyone use Urea?

Not the liquid that goes in your diesel truck. The 46-0-0 fertilizer. My plan is to apply it early with some nice compost then use 15-15-15 before burr formation.

    Random IPA Observation

I brewed a NEIPA a few weeks ago, bottled 5 gallons. I put a few in the fridge to test and liked the flavor and aroma. Naturally I crushed them and started tapping into the ones at room temp. I poured one/two into a frozen mug and absolutely loved the flavor and aroma. So, I am wondering...

    1st BIAB, getting too anxious??

So, my brew day didn't start where I wanted. I was aiming to mash in at 152, my strike water was 161 and it was 35 in my garage, I thought I would be ok. Grain temp was 70, dumped grains in on my full volume of water. Wound up mashing at 157. I was ok with that, time constraints meant I...
