    I'm officially finished with Airgas!

$28 to swap out a 5#. $5.60 in tax alone. I assume there are new california taxes this year  so that part is expected but to go from $16 last year to $28 this year is a bunch of BS. The guy behind the counter insisted that airgas won't let them sell it cheaper. Is everybody...

Dry hop an aged IPA for clarity?

Any good experiences on a long (2 month secondary) followed by a dry hop at the end. I'm just trying to envision aging beer and then tossing it in the fridge for 2 to 4 weeks to drop the yeast out to make "like filtered" beer. Wrong?

Will submerged lead free solder on a wort chiller matter?

So now that I have a keggle, my wort chiller is too short. So I'm planning to cut the 1/4" pipe and add 4 couplings and 2 lengths of pipe to extend it above the rim of the keg. So there will be 2 soldered couplings that will probably get wet for 15 minutes during boiling. Any issues?

Is the Janet's Brown AG kit at Morebeer correct???

So I got the Janet's Brown AG kit at morebeer and was admiring how much stuff came with the kit. It's huge! If you look here the recipe states 5 gallons in the description. http://morebeer.com/view_product/11919/102191/Janets_Brown_Ale_-_All_Grain_Beer_Kit#description ...and then states...

Should I cut the plants down or let them hang out until the end?

My 1st year plants are pretty much done with. One of them is dead (brown on top anyway) because it was not doing to well, and it's fuggles so I stopped watering it about a month ago. The rest of them are war heroes. They survived the brutal summer battle (lots of white and brown leaves) and...

Have you ever fermented on a dead yeast cake?

I poured the wort on a yeast cake in a keg that was sealed for about 2 or 3 weeks. When I cracked the seal on the keg, the keg let out a ton of gas and the smell was pretty strong inside. I just assumed the smell was from the hop trub inside sitting for a while. I tasted the yeast and it...

    Sierra nevada summerfest 2012: Wow!

Never knew they made this. I expected a hopped up punch. Was let down. :( Then I continued drinking and thought, Wow! I need to make this.:mug: This is budweiser/ coors/ miller actually done right. :rockin:

Are freezer burned hops good for anything?

Are they worth saving for anything like bittering? They gave a funky aftertaste on a dry hop recently. I used hallertauer.

    SOB earwigs!

They're killing my plants. They don't eat any of the other potted plants just the hops. WTF? I sprinkled 7 on the leaves and around the surface of the wood chips and let it hang out all day on Monday. Then I blew off the excess because it was kind of thick and was worried about phytotoxicity...

Hop growing experiment in Santa Clarita, CA

Yeah you heard right, I said experiment. :D It gets brutally hot in July (100-110) so I am just playing around with this. Site: loamy sand, very drainable, full sun all the time, lots of critters (spiders, mini scorpions, bugs that eat leaves), barren neglected landscape next to native...

Has anyone tried quick force carbing at room temp?

I am planning to get a 20 lb tank as a backup and use it to carb up some quick batches outside the keezer so that I don't have to fill the 5 too much. Now I'm not talking 30 psi. More like 60 psi. Is that too risky?:cross:

Question about using pressurized fermentation for carbing up

My keg has now been sitting on 30 psi for about 5 days after ramping up the last few gravity points. Well the pressure is still increasing consistently. My relief valve is a little weird and allows the pressure to go past 30 so I just bleed it a couple times per day. I am planning to leave it...

Anybody try warming a keg up to finish fermenting?

My carbed up and chilled keg is not quite done fermenting. I figure it's at about 1.017 after adjusting the hydrometer because it seems off by a couple of points. So I probably still have about 5 to 7 points left. It tastes unfinished as well. So would warming it to 70 for a week be advised...

Can someone please tell me how to install this weldless ball valve?

I got this exact model. As you can see it has one o-ring and one washer. Does the o-ring sit against the inside of the pot and the valve sit directly against the outside of the pot? Should I get another washer for the outside? Also what about the nipple going into the valve...

Would boiling 8 oz mason jars allow for sterile empty storage?

If I took a half dozen jars and boiled them up for 15 minutes, Could I then seal them up and store them until needed for yeast slurry without reboiling them? Just wondering if any of you do that.

Will a krausen form with no constant pressure relief?

I was thinking of getting something like this: ...and using it to pressure ferment. I figured I'd set my regulator to 5 psi, plug this device in and adjust it down to just start opening and then ferment at <5psi. However, I was concerned about the blow off. So I am wondering if the...

Anybody know what these kegs are?

http://us.ebid.net/for-sale/two-gal-stainless-cornelius-kegs-50635399.htm?from=googleshop_us Looks like a science project.

I'm looking for a good SMaSH recipe with light LME and cascade hops.

I want to build a super lazy go to beer that I could just dump into the fermenter at the last minute whenever I have the urge. It doesn't have to be perfected through boiling or starters or whatever, just decent to drink and as cheap as it can be while using extracts. I am thinking of this...

Question about high cell pitching lagers

I have wyeast 2112 that is going to be about 15% when I use it next week. I see that I need about 370 bill cells which means three 1.5L starter steps. My question is, how do you gaurd against overflow when you get that active? My project for tonight involving stepping once is sitting under...

I need help with some old wyeast 1007

I have a stir plate (1.5L w/170g light dme) going since last night with wy1007 dated 11/21/11. MR. Malty says that it is 35% viable and that I need two of these packs. I am brewing tonight and don't want to buy another pack if I can salvage this one. The yeast activity was very minimal this...
