    Bock with a Pilsner Yeast

Hoping to brew Friday. Just finishing up a Czech Pils and want to split the cake to make two 5 gallon batches. I was thinking of making a Maibock or Festbock, making one standard and one with tart cherries. But i'm concerned about the yeast. Will Pils play nice with a Bock?

    2 beers 1 hopped wort

Hey Guys, I'm looking for a good style to push the limits of on the cold side. I want to make 10 gallons of hopped wort and then divide into two fermenters and make two totally different beers. Leaning towards a wheat right now, just because you can do so much with various adjuncts. Any...

First Lager, going well, looking for advice on temp timing

So I made my starters, I'm at an FG of 1.010 and i'm currently at my d-rest. I'm using a brewpi and have a very long ramp from d rest to lagering temps (30 days). I made this based on the lager fermentation profile in beersmith. So right now my plan is this. Rack the beer to...

    Flat bottomed pot.....

So i have a flat bottomed pot....100qt 22" diameter. I am trying to figure out the best way to drain this thing. If my dip tube is even a small amount off the bottom, i leave behind a gallon or so of wort. I just don't want to have to deal with buying extra grain for this level of planned...

    thinking of biab...but....

So have a 100qt kettle that has something like a 22" diameter. I can only find 17" false bottoms. so two questions: 1. is it a problem if the bag falls off the rack a bit? (I assume that there is a risk of grain scorching.) 2. Where could I find a false bottom of this size? Only custom...

Adding Fruit to a low ABV Melomel

I am making a 7% short mead/melomel. I used 6.25 lbs of orange blossom honey with Lalvin D47. This means that the yeast won't be shutting down due to alcohol limits. I want to add about 11 lbs of peaches to it. I am afraid that it will simply ferment the peach flavor out. I don't really like...

So i'm brewing up the NB Head Scratcher India Pale Weizen. It's a hoppy wheat beer. It calls for 2 oz of cascade to be dry hopped into it. Cascade is no my favorite hope, the beer has 3 oz of tettnanger for 60 minutes and is low abv. Any thoughts on replacements of the cascade dry hop? just...

    Wild Barrel Creation and Maintenance?

Hi all, I just got a new (to me) 5 gallon barrel and am hoping to use it as a home for some wild bugs. I was thinking that maybe I could age beer in there for a short time to inoculate it and then once thoroughly inoculated remove it to a carboy. So to do this i need to learn a few...

How to calculate proper pitch rate from trub

So i caught my own yeast out of the air and made a yeast bank. Just made my first beer with it. Came out great! Saved some of the trub (which i used gelatin in as a fining agent) on Sunday. Put it in a sanitized sealed bottle in the fridge. I want to use it on a new beer on Friday. I have a...

So i happen to have a 5lb cylinder of pure N2 and a regulator. I am making a saw tooth nitro (by left hand) clone. I am going to carb it at about 3psi and then put it on tap. I have 10 ft beer lines. What pressure should i serve at with the N2 (again not beer gas)? Since my desired...

Stainless braid as dip tube in BK

I have a flat bottom kettle and it seems i'm always waging a war with getting the last of my wort out and either not clogging my dip tube with hops or trying to find a way to filter them out. Towards that end, I was wondering if anyone had ever used a stainless braid as a dip tube...
