    Equipment Profile Mash Efficiency Influencers

Hi Guys I'm tweaking my equipment profiles again because I've had a few hiccups with batches where i've been way over my estimated efficiency (like 90% on an estimated 82%) and then in other batches under (70is on an estimated 80%). I've been poking around trying to figure how the program...

    WTB Small ball-lock kegs

Looking for new or used (but in working condition) small kegs from roughly 3 gallon and smaller. Will cover shipping if necessary, looking for reasonably priced deal. Would also trade beer for kegs (frequently pick up Treehouse and or Equilibrium) if you're into the east coast NEIPA thing but...

    NEIPA and Pectin

So i know some places add apple puree to their boil which has develops pectin which in turn can help with body and haze (possibly). Has anyone ever experimented with actual pectin powder versus using apple puree? or even strawberry - I know people are making jam out there with only sugar and...

So I'm trying to determine if the intensity of the whirlpool or agitation during a whirlpool with have an effect on hop utilization in the whirlpool. Does a more vigorous whirlpool with vortex have a increased effect versus a mild swirl? also someone in another threat mentioned not agitation...

6-row vs rice hulls in american wheat

thinking about cooking up a hoppy american wheat. I was wondering about to possibility of using 6-row malt for its flavor and huskiness and get away with not adding rice hulls to help avoid a stuck sparge. Grain Bill I'm looking at right now: 4# Golden Promise 4# 6-row 8# white wheat 1-2#...

Strike Calculators not asking for grain weight?

Hey am I mental? what gives? even Palmer's explanation / equation doesn't actually include an actual grain weight. How can this be accurate when calculating initial strike temp? Tw=(0.2/r)(T2-T1)+T2 i know the "r" is the grain weight ratio, but simply stating 1.250 in the equation doesn't...

Mash temp "adjust for equipment temp" (x post from beersmith forums)

used BS on android for a while, recently started on PC. major thing i've noticed is a difference in strike temp adjustment for grain / mash tun temp. long story short after all recipe elements are entered and selecting to adjust profile by equipment temp PC version is quoting me a strike temp...

    equipment issue?

Hey everyone...extremely long time since last post here. over the last year I made the change from extract to all grain. I've had limited success. I've very much so refined my process and technique. no longer missing mash temps and been able to keep ph around 5.2. The equipment I'm using right...

    Quick Disconnect Material

I found these on a previous thread: http://www.mcmaster.com/#6739K59 http://www.mcmaster.com/#6739K64 I'm wondering if there is a benefit / drawback to using SS vs Brass vs Plastic. Does anyone have a preference and or why? I'd obviously like to us SS, But price might become an...

Dry hop in keg with surescreen

I'm going to try dry hopping in an extra keg I have using pellet hops then pressure transfer to a serving keg, would I run into trouble if I covered the dip tube with a surescreen? Would I end up clogging the dip tube or simply not be able to transfer everything over?

    Boil Time in NEIPA

Lately i've been wondering about boiling for 60 minutes versus 15 or so when making a NEPIA. My last batch I did not add hops until post boil whirlpool. This got me thinking if it was actually necessary to spend that full 60 minutes boiling versus just long enough to sterilize the wort. Would...

Converting All Grain to Partial Mash

Can someone explain to me (like I'm 5) how to convert an all grain to a partial mash recipe? I've read this article, but with the example I'm trying it leaves me with a ton of DME (like upwards of 12lbs) http://byo.com/grains/item/2543-converting-to-partial-mash In every case it says to...

    Late extract addition

I know this is probably been answered time and time again but, if I do a late extract addition to minimize caramelization do I need to make changes to my hop schedule or hop amounts at all?

    Slow carbing corny kegs

Hey guys quick question about slow carbing / carbing in general. If i have both lines attached i.e. the in and the outs....will that affect the rate at which the kegged beer carbonates? I'm just wondering if there's any chance of gas outflow from the out tube. My first batch I did without...

Storing a keg filled with starsan?

It's been discussed before (https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f35/leaving-star-san-keg-279203/ and in many other threads), but I couldn't find a concrete answer on my question in particular.... It seems like I can store a keg filled with starsan but unless I use DI / RO water the starsan will...

Got the bug again...What have I missed?

Several years ago I was a very active brewer but due to a career change / schooling I've been out of the game for quite some time. I'd brew a batch here and there but didn't keep up on new techniques or the forum. Since returning to the forum I've noticed some new lingo and "electric brewing."...

    Hot Sauce & BBQ Sauce

So I love hot sauce and i also love bbq sauce. I've been looking all over for resources on creating these for my cooking but have been falling really short. I've found a book here and there that lends a small tip or a recipe, but nothing going into any real depth. I've been lucky enough to find...

how do you determine priming sugar by FG?

I read (or had a dream) that either yooper revvy or someone else determined how much priming sugar to use when bottling by making a calculation with their final gravity reading. Could someone shed some light on this perhaps? I'd like to move into the next level of my brewing and one of the...
