Life aboard a Minesweper! I served on the USE IMPLICIT. an MSO Class minesweep. "Wooden ships and Iron men" was the fleet motto.

we did get a Navy Unit Commendation for turning our FFG into an MCM

found 3 of them. Pretty sure I've posted here before about them, not long ago, posted a picture of The Chair

they used our FFG as a minesweeper during Desert Storm. found 3 of them. Ship got a Navy Unit Commendation ribbon for that

the 1 was just floating & one of our mine watches spotted it.

the other 2 were spotted from the helo, dead ahead of us, 12 feet below the surface. I was in The Chair at the time and I KNOW if the bird hadn't seen them, I wouldn't have either and we would have rolled right over them

It's not a waste. Most of the kegs Where previously filled with BMC. We are refilling them with the same thing they had in them previously.

We had an RCA colortrak with "push button" channel selector. I remember thinking we entered the space age without the mechanical channel selector knob.
Remotes came later......

This past May it's been 40 years since i reported to Great Lakes for my recruit training. Thank you for your service!

I did A, BE/E, 2xCs & 2 mini courses, an apprentice acoustic analysis course, 2 tours in the galley on our small base (FLEASWTRACENPAC... that little peninsula between Harbor & Shelter Islands) and spent 1 year, 1 month, 1 week and 1 day in Transient Personnel waiting for those C schools

finally transferred to the fleet one month shy of 3 years, after spending the entire first half of my enlistment in SD
