    When to Distil?

Another use for foreshots is similar to a product called Dry Gas, it helps prevent fuel line freeze ups. Use caution: There is no lubrication properties of alcohol, and can prematurely damage your engine, and will eat away at any rubber seals.

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

I prefer the bottomless bucket method with the mill mounted permanently to the top bucket... Then it's just a matter of swapping out the bottom buckets. the bottom that was cut out of the "bottomless" bucket is then used as a grain shield. You are getting awesome efficiency.

    Average age of home brewers......

Started brewing a couple years ago I'm 50 now, and I brew as often as I'm able. Usually about 2-3 times a month, but it's more than just a brew day, I malt, dry, mill, and cleanup, before it's time for brewday. Brewday is just when all the hard work comes together... Sharing with friends is...

    Why do you make wine?

I enjoy both Wine and Beer and for reasons similar to yours... I like experimenting and controlling the outcome. Sometimes I like Malty sometimes I like Sweet :) My first wine (a long time ago) was 5 lbs frozen blackberries, and 3 lbs table sugar and (1)Campden tablet, a food grade 5 gallon...

    Freeze Distillation

I suppose it's kinda like, The feds can bust you for a still is if they find it, and can prove it's yours, and that it has been used to distill alcohol...This is true, because owning any size still in the USA is legal, no matter the size, but it must be registered, (so they know where to send...

    Freeze Distillation

Fellow homebrewers: Regarding someone's awesome-looking applejack. I decided to contact the TTB to clarify the regulation of freeze distillation, specifically as it relates to homebrewers. I received a reply, and it's not good. My initial query: To: TTB Internet Questions Subject...

    Freeze Distillation

I would use caution when using freeze concentration... When distilling using a still you remove the first 250ml (1/2 pint) / 5 gallons as this contains methanol and other nasties. When using freeze concentration, methanol and those other harmful chemicals are also collected from freeze...

My Ugly Junk- Corona Mill Station...

I'm uploading some pictures trying to show how cutting up one bucket to hold the Corona Grinder and using the bottom half to create Cover Shield...I'm able to interchange the bottom collection buckets, (these are unmolested buckets, and just change out) as these are ordinary 5 gallon stackable...

After Malting Comes Drying... Inexpensive electric drying rack

Love malting my own grain, Mostly 6 row seed barley but I have malted wheat and rye too... I've built my drier for after malting. It is heated by two inexpensive electric heaters pushing through the bottom of the racks, while two computer fans pull the heated air through the grain. Currently it...

    Refractometers

Reading my hydrometer going to the boil kettle and then to the fermentor to get the gravity readings I was shooting for, to me was difficult...I purchased a Refractometer from Amazon less than $25 a couple weeks ago, and it's well worth it. Takes the guess work out of brew day. There is a lot...

    Distillers parrot for mash tun

A Hydrometer is susceptible to temperature. (Mine reads H2O 1.000 at 60 degrees fahrenheit) What temperature are you transferring your wort to your boil kettle? A parrot with Alcoholometer is used at the collection point after the distillate has been cooled to change from a vapor to liquid...

Anyone else not buy retail beer?

I'll admit it...I bought a case of commercial beer, BUT my defense isn't that I enjoy commercial beer of my own... Rather it's a means of buying reusable bottles that come full of beer.;)
