Naming a beer, does it matter?

I do a mix of name and style. For example my last brew was a red using local ingredients so I named it Pacific NorthRed (I have another brewed with a pinecone in the mash called Redwoods).

Any worse beer destination than Mexico?

This entire thread reeks of cultural insensitivity and beer snobbery, and in a few instances, straight racism. Beer standards aren't set by predominately white, Western European culture. The large majority of this thread has been advice to retreat to the relative safety of German or Belgian or...

Any women homebrewers on here? POC?

Why does it matter that you're white?

    My Letter to Budweiser

Agreed. Also, I imagine a large swath (maybe not all) of people here would overall praise Free Market Capitalism as working, and our Representative Democracy as a good system. However when you put those two things together, you get the sort of monopolizing aggregation of those who tried...

Prepaid Smartphones - great potential for ferm control

I agree with this, the RPi allows a much more flexible build. Software and hardware.

I'm gonna make a crazy ass red ale!

I used it in a test batch for my competition red. It's pretty true to its name, the clearer the beer gets, the more it has this pearlescent red shine through it. I'm happy with it. Although, for my final competition red I don't think I'll use it.

I'm gonna make a crazy ass red ale!

It might fall within style guidelines SRM but I think, given the amout of LME and gold/pale that you may be on the amber side of red. It probably wont be ruby red. But, if it's styled like a red and it tastes like a red, then it's a red.

Brewing very small scale commercially - question about yeast and equipment transition

One thing to think about regarding both questions is the depth of knowledge. You can make really good beer in your kitchen, but if you're only giving it to family and friends, the science underneath isn't quite as important. That said, distributing to the public (at any level) is going to...

    "Craft" beer sales top Budweiser

That is genius. It's a good business strategy, and nothing changes for the Goose Island crew, except now they have unlimited resources.

Is anyone else getting really tired of the use of the words "Craft beer"??

This is actually something I see people reacting differently to. On the one hand, and I am in this camp, I see the difference of "brewer" and "homebrewer" being a title earned through experience, in this case commercial. For example, you could teach a class at a college, but that doesn't make...

    "Craft" beer sales top Budweiser

That's true. This is an interesting perspective, whereas before I viewed two markets, neither of which would grow or intersect (BMC and Non-BMC). However, with InBev's strategy of diversifying their umbrella of different brands, the BMC market may actually start to envelop the non-BMC market by...

    "Craft" beer sales top Budweiser

I agree. I think on some level too there's a David and Goliath feeling to seeing stacks and stacks of BMC next to one or two six packs of smaller brewery stuff. Tyson sells chicken that will taste just as delicious on the grill as any other (if I'm grilling ;)) but I'd rather support local...

    "Craft" beer sales top Budweiser

I would never turn that down! True, and I meant no disrespect. I more meant to highlight the difference between beer drinkers who know the process, who understand what makes a truly good beer, and those who think all beer is the same. This is interesting to me. I think you're right, you...

    "Craft" beer sales top Budweiser

Exactly. Doctors make the worst patients. Brewers make the worst consumers.

    "Craft" beer sales top Budweiser

And I think this is where the change in markets occurs. This is why there are two beer markets. To an average beer drinker, the "boring end of bjcp" may represent 100% of the beer diversity. You could quite literally drink every Porter made by every "craft" brewery and not quite taste the...

    "Craft" beer sales top Budweiser

Personally, I think the term "craft" beer was at first a subversive stab at BMC, to differentiate between corporate-machine produced lager and smaller-in-scope breweries. However, as time moves, so does the evolution of the industry. Now "craft" is a buzzword for the uninitiated, which is why...

Brew Shop - An Android Homebrew App

I hope to have this fixed and submitted this week, there are just a few small adjustments needed.

It's official starting my own brewing business!

It certainly was a journey, and I mean no disrespect. It sounds like you came out of this situation in a place you love, with people you love, and not bankrupt so good on you. I more meant for the zealous brewer who wants to dive right in thinking all it takes is bigger tanks.
