I'm really glad I didn't add any sugar. I was debating, unsure as to if I'd get enough breakdown for the yeast efficiency. I left the house for about 4 and a half hours and came back to one of the most active fermentation's I've ever had, after the RIS I did last year. I'm really excited to get...
As I type, I'm halfway through my boil. I used 10lb barley, 1.5lb rye, and 1lb of wheat. Using Mt. Hood hops (1oz with 40min left and .5oz with 5min left). I know it will be beer, but unsure if it's a simple ale or something else.
That's a dial they put on the lid that's only really useful when you have several fermentations going at the same time and started them or need to transfer on different days. Basically a way to mark the fermenter with month and day of pitching.
I've got about 5 gal of my first apple cider bubbling away. I would like to add honey for flavor (I've got local suppliers in NC and FL from which to choose). How much should I add to get the flavor but not raise ABV much more? I didn't even think of adding initially because I assume it's like...
I really need to get a wort chiller. Decided to use my new conical fermenter (SS Brew bucket) and skipped the ice bath while still in the boiler pot. Poured the hot wort in thinking it would cool in a few hours. It's been 7 hours and I'm still above 100F....[emoji849][emoji21] this fermenter...
Just cracked open my first Imperial Russian Stout. I bottle conditioned it and didn't get as much carbonation as I expected. Everything else came out beautifully, but would I get a better head/head-retention with a forced carb? I just ordered kegs and the rest of the equipment am just wondering...
So the leftover gelatin "sludge" in the keg isn't a big deal? I'm thinking of kegging my next brews, brewing in a garage in Florida during July/August, to streamline my production and cut time.
Thanks. I've been looking into the gelatin method for ales at least. I kind of dig the sediment in the brew. I think my problem on the last batch was that I made a strawberry sour, but didn't use a bag for the fruit in secondary. Lots of extra sediment but no negative affect on flavor. I'll...
