I'm changing my fermentation setup to use dorm fridges, each controlled by an ITC-308 and I have a couple of small questions. This is in my attached garage and I expect temperatures to be below room temperature for most of the year. Also, I plan to go w/ a compressor delay of 5 minutes as this...
Thanks for the feedback. I just ordered a replacement defrost timer; got done primary fermentation in the fridge side (maiden voyage of actually fermenting in this thing) and its all iced up again after only 2 weeks!
Why should I keep the fridge side fans off during defrost?
Over a year ago, I turned my old side-by-side fridge into a fridge-fermentor with two STC-1000s. After much (probably too much) reading into it, I decided to disable the defrost timer as I was worried about things getting too hot during the defrost cycle because I totally bypassed the factory...
I was looking to get a spray arm setup on my laundry room sink for brew day cleanup. The current faucet is a swivel mount on a garden hose fitting. Any recommendations for a spray arm that I could attach and clip to the wall? Anybody else do something similar with their utility sink?
OK, my eherms kal clone project is approved and I am in the final design phases. Here are a few items I'm currently undecided on which I'd appreciate some crowdsourced feedback; it will be much appreciated!
(1) I am building the stand on casters and going to be brewing in the garage. I...
I am looking to build a kal clone brew stand on casters and integrate a mount for the control panel. I was thinking of having one of the rear legs (doubled 2x4s) extend as a post above the table top by a few feet and mount the control panel to this using a full motion TV mount.
I am not a...
I have one of these (http://www.webstaurantstore.com/taylor-3516-4-3-4-trutemp-digital-instant-read-probe-thermometer/6083516.html?utm_source=Amazon) and I've noticed some behaviors I wanted to confirm with the class over a few uses for AG and normal kitchen/BBQ use.
It seems that whenever I...
Wow, glad I finally caught this thread. I have been doing this for 3 years now, only 2-3 AG batches a year, and my efficiency calcs have been all over the place. I've just been taking a quick reading pre-boil and convert to a post boil reading, no stir.
My most recent batch's reading was...
I wasn't going to, but my test run iced up the lines w/ the stock thermo set to 3/4 power.
Instead of futzing with it to dial it in (and risk further icing of my brand new equipment) I just hooked up my Dwyer TSS2 unit to it.
The temps dived way past my set point w/ the stock thermo on...
Don I have the same one you got. I looked at the pics and got spooked for a min b/c my door cut outs are almost identical to yours! I got a twin tap tower custom homebrew kit from beveragefactory.com, seems to be the way a lot of folks are going with this.
Thx for the info -- will go all the...
My conversion is coming along fine w/ the 'new' model issues (tab for thermo assembly in middle of back, moulded in door gasket, hole cutout in top w/o hitting anything).
Wondering what size holes folks may have drilled for using the default bolts coming from a beverage factory draft tower kit...
I got the glued-in shelving/gasket variety in the garage awaiting conversion. Too bad I already bought the plexiglass; Dremel + insulation tape it is. Thanks for the tip on the light notch; I probably would have missed that!
Has anybody validated these newer versions still only have a line...
So I went ahead and bottled, chose a relatively low amount of priming sugar since I wasn't quite convinced it was totally done, and it sure wasn't!
Getting foam-overs like the previous batch I know I over-carbed (my process came up 20% short of 5g). Since last time I had a clear process flaw...
My 1.071 OG All-Grain IBA/BIPA has sat in the better bottle for 3 weeks now; last week it was at 1.024 and this week its at 1.023.
Should I bottle condition tomorrow? I used WLP005 when has an attenuation range of 67%-74%, which means i'm just above the lower-bound.
I smell sweet and some...
