I used 3 vanilla beans, for some reason I left them off the recipe. I buy them whole. Cut lengthwise and scrape out insides. Chop up the beans and put it all in a small jar with vodka. I usually do this right around brew day, they sit then for the length of fermentation. I add them about 2.5...
It turned out pretty well. I made a double batch of the base chocolate milk stout. Then did raspberry with half. The raspberry was initially a bit overpowering. So I bottled some as is and some mixed 50/50 with the regular base stout. That balanced out the flavor nicely. But I recently...
On brew day I put my cocoa nibs in a small jar and add just enough vodka to cover them, then screw on the lid. I take the vanilla beans and slice them in half lengthwise. Then scrape out the seed goop in the inside (this is where the flavor is). I put that into another small jar. I chop up the...
Hot water and oxy overnight... Then hit with one of these bottle jets.... Never had a problem. Going forward the best thing you can do is give bottles a quick rinse when you empty them.

I've already got 2 pounds of flakes oats. I've used the chocolate and carafe in a chocolate stout where I used nibs. I know they are a bit lighter in taste so I added a pound of roasted barley instead of half pound. I brewed this on Saturday. It went well but I didn't have as much DME as I...
Thanks... A actually ditched the crystal all together and went Munich malt instead. I've used cluster before in a few stouts and am ok with them.
Good point about first use barrel... I'll taste along the way.
Ok, So I bought a used 5 gallon bourbon barrel and plan to brew this recipe for a big imperial stout that I plan to age for 9 months to a year in the barrel. my target was to be close to 12%abv and have a nice chewy stout. I'm shooting for a 6 gallon batch so I have enough to completely fill...
I use my temp controlled chest freezer fermenter to cold crash after fermentation is done. I made a 6.8abv brown ale and in the midst of taking another fermenter out so I could cold crash, didn't see that my temperature probe fell out of the chest freezer i use.
Long story short... is that in...
I had the same thing... It was weird cause it was only certain yeasts... Hefe yeast in particular. After several batches, changing one component at a time, I narrowed it my tap water. Made sure to use either spring water or water i bring home from our cottage (artesian well) and problem has...
Answers... No, minimal, and yes.
You'll be fine. That strong of a fermentation created 100% CO2 environment inside your fermenter. Clean up the mess and keep your fermenter closed and all is well.
Happy Brewing.

Thanks for helping to clarify. I am pretty happy with the stout. It was my 2nd time making a stout and was the first time I have ever made a milk stout and first time working with cocoa nibs and vanilla beans. I set aside a six pack that I am letting age and will open a bottle every 6 months. It...

So first time throwing my hat in the ring. And I have no idea if i did good or bad. Ultimately I was just looking for objective feedback from people that aren't "friends".

My chocolate milk stout scored 36.5 in category 21a of 52...
