Here's a good one. I've loved Iron and Wine since the beginning, but the direction Sam has taken is incredible. I've had the chance to see him with both a four piece band and the full band with horns and backup singers. Small is good, but the big band experience is rocking. Try to find the live recording of the Vermont show that came with the Daytrotter session vinyl with Iron and Wine and The Low Anthem. There are some brilliant moments in that show.

Since I mentioned them here is a little Low Anthem. Hard to pigeonhole these guys, but this is stunningly beautiful. I saw this live a couple of years ago and he had the whole crowd do the cell phone thing he does at the end. Very haunting and surreal.

Any Solid Sound attendees from over the weekend? I heard Wilco slayed an all request show Friday night with 29 covers!

There is a recording of the show up on Dimeadozen if anyone is interested...

My October just keeps getting more and more ridiculuous. If this doesn't stop soon I won't have any money for homebrew or trades.

Oct. 1 - Local Natives
Oct. 4 - Sigur Ros
Oct. 9 - ARCTIC MONKEYS!!! The Glastonbury headliners!!!In Birmingham, AL?!?!?! WTF???
Oct. 24 - Nine Inch Nails w/ Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Neutral Milk Hotel should be on the list for Oct. 20 but I didn't even hear about the show until three hours after tickets went on sale.

This thread is strong, like bull. Its been a month or so since I was on it, read through all the posts and got hipped to 30 more bands.
Thanks everybody. Just saw silversun pickups and metric. That was pleasant. Hoping to get to Duluth to see-bob Dylan, mmj, wilco and richard thompson outdoors, in front of lake superior.

I have been seeing some GREAT set-lists from both MMJ and Wilco so far on this tour. Bobby Weir has been opening some shows and he's been coming out and playing some covers with both bands. I heard he did Dear Prudence and I Know You Rider with MMJ and he's done Ripple, Friend of the Devil and freaking Dark Star with Wilco. :ban: :rockin: :fro:

And then there's this :mug::

I was wanting to go to this but the biggest swim meet of the year for my daughters is the same weekend Americnarama is coming through Cincy so I can't swing it unfortunately...

Thanks mmj for that video and and links. The show looks pretty damn cool, if not historic. I bought tickets for my mom and aunties, but I'm not sure I'll be well enough to attend. Curses! Maybe I'll take a **** ton of pain killers and really have a good time. Fun fact- my mom lives in the house bob Dylan was born in. Its in Duluth and I think its on google earth. That ends the fun fact portion of this post.

Off to Americanarama tomorrow in Cincy! Between this and seeing Son Volt a few weeks ago in Ann Arbor, this is turning out to be a good summer.

My favorite indie rock band has been Neutral Milk Hotel
My current obsession is the band Why?
I also am a big fan of Andrew Bird, Reverand Horton Heat, Palace Brothers, Magnetic Fields

Boy I just realized I listen to pretty out-dated stuff. I'll check yinz guys' suggestions!

Outdated but good! NMH is getting back together for a tour!

I just saw Jeff on his solo tour, it was great! I'll have to see if he's coming near Providence. Any fans of Goblin out there? The old Italian horror disco/prog rock troupe is on tour with the Secret Chiefs 3!

How was Son Volt? I heard they're tearing it up this tour?

Also, I was looking at the beers in your sig and was wondering what kind of brew Grateful Dead Guy was? I like the name... :mug:

You doing the Houndmouth cruise tonight cheezy? Heard it is going to be a 3 hour cruise?

Someone was posting Forecastle pics over on the My Morning Jacket forum. Brought back good memories from being there last year. That festival is becoming one of the best as their lineups are just getting stronger and stronger!

Son Volt was one of the most satisfying shows I've been to in a long time. They didn't play every song that I would have liked them too but every song they did play sounded great and I was glad they played it.

The new album is one that I like more and more every time I hear it and even more so after hearing the songs live with such an awesome band.

I can't speak for any of the other venues on the tour, but the place I saw them, The Ark, Ann Arbor MI, (Right across the street from the Jolly Pumpkin brew pub btw) can't hold more than 300 people and I had a seat in the fourth row, center stage.

Five stars out of five. Drive for hours to see them if you have to. You'll be glad you did.

The Grateful Dead Guy Ale started out as a Dead Guy clone but I substituted the Cara-stan for Cara-Belge and I upped the hop bill by 50%. Pretty tasty.

The cruise was sold out (thank R2D2) or I'd probably be dead.

3 days is a LOT.

Jim James was channelling Jim Morrison and putting on one hell of a show, but the Black Keys effing blew him out of the water. I was surprised.

Avetts aren't quite done but I am. I worked Friday 8-7 and saturday 9-2 and didn't miss any forecastle. I am getting old ;)

Been a while since anyone's posted here.

Anybody listen to the new Generationals album? It's pretty damn amazing.

Glad to see this thread pop up again. Haven't even heard of The Generationals, but will certainly check them out.

Rocktober is officially under way. Saw a great Local Natives show Tuesday night with Wild Nothing opening. Wild Nothing wasn't anything special, but LN put on a hell of a show. Such a dynamic band with great songs.

Last night was Sigur Ros. This is possibly the best show I've ever seen. The stage show was absolutely beautiful and the performance was flawless. I don't see how it is possible for Jonsi to sing like that for 1.5+ hours but he never tired or missed a note. The addition of the horns and strings makes for such a huge sound. The Popplagið closer was absolutely mindblowing. Unfortunately for us we did not hear that they were playing DJ set at a small bar in town after the show. If you are anywhere near a tour stop this is a must-see show.

We still have Arctic Monkeys and NIN this month. I'm really excited for both but I don't know that either will bring such an incredible experience as Sigur Ros.

Glad to see this thread pop back up! Local Natives came through town but I missed them.

Last show I saw was Pinback. So amazing! I admittedly love them already, but to see them live was excellent. Rob Crowe is awesome, but the bassist... I never realized what an amazing player he is!

Here's a video I took with my phone:

Check out his hand [on the left]!

On the docket for me- Pearl Jam w/Midlake in November and Neutral Milk Hotel in January.

Atoms for Peace tonight at the Hollywood Bowl, scored pool seats in the presale - really been excited for this one for a a few months

I saw them a few times when they first formed and had no name - really loved their album and can't wait to see them again

Really digging the latest Califone and Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr Albums

also, not indie by any means but the new Pearl Jam album as really awesome - can't wait to see them next month

YES. The last Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr album is incredible.

Here's a great one that not many people have heard...

Anyone else loving the new Arcade Fire? Outside of a few songs here and there I've never been a huge fan, but I can't stop listening to this album. IMO not a bad song on the entire album.

Oh yeah saw NIN a couple of weeks ago. The new album on its own is pretty good, but next to the older material it created some real lulls in the energy of the show. Great visuals though. Crappy cell phone pics but you get the idea.

LOVE the new Arcade Fire. Didn't James Murphy produce it or something? Groovy as heck. The last couple of albums didn't do much for me [I loved Funeral too] but this one is great. Bonus: David Bowie :)

I was just reflecting on the fact that one of my favorite artists died this year.

Jason Molina was best known for his work as Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co. It is not coincidental that his greatest album fell under both names as it was recorded under the band name Songs: Ohia while the album was entitled "Magnolia Electric Co"

This album saw it's 10th anniversery reissue this fall, just about six months after Jason's sad death.

Some choice cuts:

[ame="http://youtu.be/yRja1gNP6nA"]http://youtu.be/yRja1gNP6nA[/ame]
(Lawrence Peters sings this version on the album but the lyrics are some of the most beautifully sad I've ever heard)

In hindsight, to those of us familiar with him and his music, the fact that he drank himself to death is no real surprise. It serves as a sad reminder that when demons and disease collude, even the most thoughtful and talented among us can succumb.

The lineup is out if you haven't seen it. Doesn't quite have the 'wow' factor last year did, but still solid overall. Weekend 1 is sold out, but tickets are still available for Weekend 2. Got lots of research to do before April.

Can't wait to visit some San Diego breweries while I'm in the area.

This thread's been down and out for a little while. There's too much good music out there to let it go dormant.

Here's a great indie-electronic group called Beat Connection. I rarely use the term "the bomb", but this song is definitely it:

headed to see Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. tonight - Speed of Things is one of my most listened to albums over the past several months - really excited to see them live

I think the new Sun Kil Moon album is very good.

This is the opening track. It's a true story about the death of his second cousin Carissa.
