Thanks to the ex-wife, I may have trouble on the 22nd. How should that be handled?

Sorry to hear that. Exes, they have their way...

Can you send someone else to pick it up?

Or maybe someone in the buy can transport your share and hold on to it until you can pick it up from him.

Just let us know, so we can release it to the right person.

plus, they're called "naked"... how can you say no?!?

anyone training for the BJCP exam who wants to prep hit me up!

:off:

I'm not prepping for anything but I've thought about getting into tasting beer. Not for judging, just to figure out what flaws my beers have. Any suggestion where I could go?

Back on topic: Fritz, would you please up my share of some Golden Nakedness to 10#? Feel free to make that 15# if push comes to shove at the end of the split!

Ok, you convinced me. I'll take 5lbs of the Naked Oats.

Cmon guys lets close these splits!

Will do.

Anyone between Rockville and Frederick able to help?

There's someone in Point of Rocks, IIRC. I drive through there to/from work every day.

Changed to 10#. Beats Viagra. ;)

Added. 15# of Golden Naked Goodness left!

Little insider knowledge: I've been using (rolled/flaked) oats in brew for a long time. A little toasting brings out more flavor if you want that. I also eat a lot of oats with a little brown sugar and raisins.

Now those naked ones need a little more TLC: milled rather finely and cooked (cereal mash), don't forget.

Will do.

I'm in Monrovia if that helps. So let me know and Stonebrewer, Islandlizard who's picking up your grain and we'll make it happen.

Also let me know if you need a stir plate I have those that just need magnets as well. Free

golden naked oats do not need a cereal mash. just crush and add to the regular mash.

As sweetcell pointed out, these golden naked oats are a crystal/caramel malt. They're not raw oats!

Description:
If you've never brewed with it, you've probably never brewed with anything like it. While most oats used in brewing are unmalted adjuncts, Simpsons Golden Naked Oats™ is actually a huskless crystal malt. This unique malt has a subtle, nutty flavor with a subdued, grainy sweetness. It imparts light golden hues to the wort while adding body and contributing to a smooth mouthfeel. It also helps produce a creamy, robust head. Although this exotic ingredient is not a traditional component of any beer styles, Simpsons Golden Naked Oats™ is perfect for malty or full-bodied beers - especially Nut Brown Ales and Stouts.

Crystal malts are gently cooked during the malting process. Cooking initiates the enzymatic conversion of starches into fermentable sugars, and caramelizes some of the sugars as the malt reaches its final color. This eliminates the need to mash crystal malt, and ensures that some of the sugars will survive fermentation to sweeten the beer.

==> Subscribed to 10# of them! 5# left for grabs.

Someone want to pick up for me? Might be able to help close some splits ... Too bad looks like I missed out on some unclothed oats ... Maybe next time...

A quart is really too small for grains.

I use (and reuse) mostly 1 gallon Hefty freezer bags, with the blue zipper/slider. They are nicely sized for 5# of grain. 1 gallon Ziplocks also hold 5#. Then in turn, I store those in 19 gallon plastic storage totes.

Now I do use quart zipper bags but just for DME. They hold 1.5# comfortably.

Since I'm ordering DME and they ended up being free (amazon shipped just one box instead of the many more promised), I'll bring them Nov22(or whenever we end up doing the buy).

Let's say yes, you'll pick it up. We can work on details in PM. I'm hoping I can work around it and do my own pickup (not that I don't trust anyone. Just trying to make life easy).

Thanks for the offer on the stir plate. I have one that I'm tweaking right now. I think either not enough amps on the power supply or something messed up in the variable speed control (wrong sized rheostat or resistor somewhere).

BUT, I bought a couple of bucks worth of rare earth magnets from Amazon. I think 1/4" diameter, 1/8" thick. If you want, I can share... Four? I think two will work, but four to make sure.

You're the best, Keith.

And everyone [EVERYONE!] needs one of his stirrers! They beat any alternative.

Maybe a few of us can relinquish some of our allotments. How much do you want?

I can give you 2.5#. Anyone else?

We don't have to cut at 5# increments. We can do 3# or 7.5# for example to help you out.

My daughter just gave me her sack of Maris Otter - too busy to brew - so if it's OK I'll drop my order... So just a sack of white wheat for me. If it's a problem I'll keep the MO however.

I live in Damascus, and take the Marc train every Monday through Friday out of Germantown. Let me know if it would be easier if I picked up for you. Would be happy to help.

A quick note on golden naked oats - great for so called session strength IPAs. If you like a little Crystal in your ipa sub in GNO for light Crystal in your recipe. I'll use 1/4 lb in a 5 gallon batch for <1.050 pale ales.

Cheers!

Steve
