OK, it feels good to have never contributed these to BA, but whip them out to BT within a month of joining. I have another fridge or two I don't have pics of, and a few more wine racks.

I'll get them uploaded next time I have a really slow Friday like today.

We need to get together, if for no other reason than to show my wife that my cellar(s) are reasonable. I'll help with the Bruery backlog :)

You store quite a few things with caps on their sides. How long have you been doing this for, and have you seen any significant difference between bad bottles stored on their sides due to rusty/bad caps compared to those you store vertically? You have a very nice collection of alcohol sir. :)

Thank you for the compliment! And there's still a few racks I haven't taken pics of!

Been storing beer since the late 90s, although it really didn't take off numbers wise (Bigfoot, VEs) until I moved to the middle of nowhere and had a dedicated cellar.

You can see some of the same bottles stored in some areas horizontally, in others, vertically. Never had anyone proclaim they could tell what was stored how. There's been quite a bit of beer drank in that time. But yeah, I need to get on it even more, we've got a backlog!

I said I'd take some pictures of my shelves now that they're decently full, and since I was adding some stuff today, I finally got around to it! So here they are:

Shelves 1&2:

Shelf 3:

That weird white box to the side:
mgF0r5G.jpg

The stuff in the box is Eclipse, RR beers, random small bottles (at this point mostly Pannepot), and some Stone/Deschutes/FW things. This box is being hit really hard as I've decided that most of that **** doesn't age. Fortunately, it's Eclipse season again, so it'll be filled back up soon.

When does a girl randomly wander around your basement...?

Nothing random about it.

"Hey baby, tell your girls let's ditch this joint and bring the afterparty to my place. I think I have a bottle or two down in the wine cellar you girls can pick anything you wanna open."

Next thing you know you're banging her friend while she's got her face buried in your gf's box, thinking, "you know, it doesn't get much better than this."

Am I smooth, rich and good looking? Sure. But not really. Its the cellar that makes it all happen. And if I could tell girls I also made those wine racks? ****. Endless possibilities.

Don'tdrinkbeer. Use it as bait.

rule #1, girls r for sex, not drinking beer. using beer for sex is only acceptable when its a macro lager, or when it's also for tricking them into marriage.

Your approach is incredibly similar to mine, but by the time I get them back to the cellar, I am slurring my words, spilling all over myself, and craving fourth meal like a wonderful human being.

If I recall correctly I gave you some 6-pack holders at Dark Lord Day in 2010. Interesting to actually see what happened to them. :)

Yeah, you know it. That project started in 1998. Well over 1000 different ones now (**** almost that many from CA alone). Thanks to everyone like yourself who has contributed.

Anyways, I think there is a Midwest wall pic, heavy on the Wisconsin of course. . .

With really big cellars...how do you keep track of it all? When you want a beer, how do you decide what to open and then find it?

Define "really big". My cellar is around 300 bottles, and I keep track of it on a google doc. For every day drinking I have some beers in my normal fridge or kegerator. For fancy tastings (or whatever) I just pick something out and go get it. I keep everything pretty organized, so even if I don't know exactly what I have, I do know generally where everything is.

That counts as big I suppose. I just look at these photos and go "damn, what would I drink first?" Your approach sounds like the right idea.

Another thing is that I typically have a keg, but I want to downsize some poor purchasing decisions right now (SO MUCH BRUERY) so I don't have one currently. But typically my "every day" drinking is some random local keg, which is nice because it cuts WAY down on how much I spend on beer if I want to have a beer most nights.

I use Google Docs (see the SD Wine Storage Inventory tab) and it works for me for the most part. I number or letter each box so I can find it in my locker space then track what beer and how many are in each box. It kind of becomes a pain once I start pulling stuff and consolidating boxes though; I forgot to update last time I was in there so I'm definitely going to have a few mystery boxes now. Plus I have a few random boxes that I forgot to label and I don't have them in my spreadsheet (mostly Lost Abbey and Alesmith stuff). It's definitely not ideal but it kind of works.

I keep an Excel Spreadsheet in Dropbox and upload it to google docs if necessary. 99% of the time I'm editing from my computer and I don't like to do the edits in docs.

My cellar got a bit out of control for a while and peaked at around 600 bottles. I realized I was building verts of stuff I didn't particularly care about and had all sorts of other random **** in there that want worth holding long term, so over the last year or two I've consumed my way down to a manageable 250 or so, and have been much more selective about what I stick in the basement. Our house is built into the side of a hill, so the back wall where this cabinet is located is actually close to 1.5 stories underground, and stays at a pretty constant 55-65 year round. The doors are open for the pic (obviously), but when closed they pretty much completely seal the cabinet except for a few ventilation holes drilled in so that it doesn't build up too much moisture.

I also just got around to rearranging everything last weekend and cataloged it all in a Google doc, so now I can actually find **** when I want to drink it.

jmtC8YC.jpg

The top shelf is recent trades, some meads, and assorted small bottles that will likely be consumed in the next year or so. It's also the only one that isn't braced by paint cans and ****, which is why the bottles are spaced out more than everything else.

The next shelf is mostly Deschutes reserve stuff, Firestone anniversaries, Sucaba, and Parabola, and some random stuff that didn't really fit the theme of any other area.

The second shelf from the bottom is Logsdons, De Garde, and Commons on the left, with a bunch of Bruery crap and some more random 750s on the right.

The bottom shelf is all Upright on the left and all my lambics on the right. Those sections will likely expand to the next shelf up as I work through the Bruery stuff.

This thread makes me feel good. I couldn't get below 100 in my house, and just recently ballooned past 200.

Here's my closet:

Not very sexy... But I'm not into cellaring [purposely].

I track in Google Docs.

Dat sucks...when will it get here...when?? Let alone a bomber

edit: where's the whiskey stash?
