What's your best West Coast IPA recipe (not double)

I've never been blown away by a (not double) west coast IPA I've brewed, except for an all Maris Otter IPA I brewed, that was really good. But I'm sitting on 40 lbs of 2 ROW so I'd like to brew with that. I've tried recipes for Bell's Two Hearted, Sculpin, Zombie Dust, a bunch of my own and...

NEIPA Wyeast 1318 Early Dry hopping schedule

I brewed a NEIPA and wanted to early dry hop for "biotransformation." I may have jumped the gun, I brewed Saturday, pitched ~ 10am. I tossed my first round of dry hops in this moring on top of a high krausen. So, about 48 hours in. Now I'm reading it maybe should have been done when gravity...

    Wyeast 1318 starter experiences?

Ordered Wyeast 1318 from morebeer for a NEIPA, it arrived with a date of 2/24! So I got a starter going with 1.75L, after adding yeast I had ~ 2L so I split into two beakers and left on strr plates (I have 2) for about 36 hours. One of my stir bars sucks and I had to keep getting it back going...

    Morebeer Malt Muncher 2 Mill

[Fixed Thread Title -Mod] I ordered the Malt Muncher 2 Mill my morebeer for $99. The more I look at that thing the smaller it looks. I typically use 12 to 20 lbs of grain per batch. Will I be happy with this mill? It hasn't shipped yet so I might be able to charge my order.

    Water adjustment help

I try to adjust my water using Brun water but I am really winging it. I pretty much try to add phosphoric acid for pH and add a bunch of gypsum for IPAs. Right now I am mashing 12.25 lbs 1.75L Weyermann Pilsner in 4.9 gallons water and added 5 ML 85% phosphoric acid. I have a PH meter that read...

    Whirlpool Port Location advice

Got a spincycle short from brewhardware and need some advice on the location. It needs to be to the left. I was thinking of putting just a tiny bit higher than my dip tube, basically almost above the vent hole in the bottom. I thought I could put some foil tape over this vent (maybe bad idea...

    Switch elements during brew

Just curious if anyone has a controller for just one element but 2 pots with elements and switches between them during a brew? I was thinking the BK and HLT for a batch sparge example - after mash and sparge unplug the the HLT and plug in the BK element. Reason being controllers seem to jump...

    Keggle Whirlpool return

I am having serious analysis paralysis on a whirlpool return arm for my 15 gallon keggle. I have a stainlessbrewing.com dip tube bulkhead on it currently and want a whirlpool return - I have a counterflow chiller and a pump. brewhardware spincycle, spincycle submerged, ssbrewtech, blichmann...

    Kettle Rims

I currently brew with a 3 vessel propane batch sparge setup with sanke kegs - 10 gallon batches. I am really interested in electric brewing - and especially Kettle Rims or K-Rims similar to the Blichmann Breweasy system, although I would have two vessels side by side. I'd always planned on...

    Different pumps with Kettle Rims

Does anyone run two different kind of pumps with K(ettle) -Rims where you're constantly recirculating both pumps? I have a chugger, but am looking at picking up a second pump and those MKIIs sure look like a good value plus they're quiet. I'm just worried the different flow rates might be a...

    Entry Level Controller Opinions

I am looking at these 3 controllers, can anyone comment on which one I should get? I plan to do Kettle-Rims or Herms with one element and sanke keggles. The auber is the cheapest at $475, the High Gravity ~$550 w/ two pump controls and the SS Brewtech $599. All have dual modes - mash and boil...

    Cheapest path to electric

I have a 3 vessel propane system using sanke kegs so I brew 10 (11.5) gallon batches - batch sparge. I live in Montana, so winters kind of suck to brew. I was considering picking up a grainfather or something so I could continue to brew 5 gallon batches in the winter but have read mixed reviews...

    Bru'n Water Help

Brewing a Red IPA, 11 gallon batch, water profile amber bitter, Bru'n water tells me 18.4 ML 10% phosphoric acid in mash, and 53 ML in the SPARGE. I'm also using Gypsum, never used Phosphoric Acid before always just acid malt. Does the sparge Phosphoric Acid sparge amount seem high?

    BJCP 2015 - Double/Imperial Red Ale

There doesn't seem to be a category for an American Double Red Ale in BJCP 2015. Lots of commercial examples. The closest is Red IPA, but it suggest max OG of 1.070 and max ABV of 7.5. Most commercial examples are 8.5%+. It is confusing. I want to brew a hoppy, malt forward but dry, double...

    Highly attenuating wort mash schedule

I generally don't get the greatest attenuation, right around what the yeast manufacturer says or less. I always do an adequate starter on a stir plate, using yeastcalculator.com. And always hit my high gravity beers with 60 seconds of pure O2. I usually mash around 152-154. So for California...

Split batch - 1098 low attenuation

I brewed 10 gallons, split into two fermenters. Pitched 1098 into one, 1056 into the other. Both were with 1.8L starters. The 1056 starter was done fermenting when I pitched, the 1098 still had some krausen. I noticed a strong sulfur smell when I opened the 1098 smack pack. I had both in a...

    Chugger Pump Rear Housing Disc

Chugger Pump (center inlet) Rear Housing Disc - I lost mine. Anyone know where I can buy one? This is the thin plastic disc the propeller sits against. I'd also like to buy a backup housing ORing. I called chugger, they told me to contact my dealer. I can't get ahold of where I bought it.
