"Pine Fruit" hops from yakima valley hops

Does anyone have any experience with this variety? I had a galaxy dry-hopped kolsch from bluejacket brewery in DC and it was fabulous. It inspired me to brew something similar. I have a couple ounces of "Pine Fruit" hops and was thinking of dry-hopping with them. Google search doesn't...

    Troubleshooting a Nitro Tap setup

Hey all! I have had a nitro setup for about seven months now and I still can't figure this thing out. After searching through the forums I have found so much contradicting information that I am even more confused than when I started. Basically I am getting incredibly foamy pours that take...

    Oxiclean ineffective

Just curious... I decided to try out oxiclean after a bit of reading about it (I'm a pbw user) and after an hour soak in my kettle....it did nothing. Maybe I'm using it for the wrong purpose? I was trying to loosen up the beer stone in the bottom and it was completely ineffective. A splash of...

    Bairds brown malt

Does anyone have some experience with this malt? I used it as part of a porter recipe today and got terrible efficiency. I suspect it was due to the crush. The kernel size of this malt appeared to be much smaller than other gains but I ran it through the mill at the same gap as the rest of the...

    I love 1272

I have been using wyeast 1272 or quite some time and have to say that it is wonderful. It is a clean fermenting American ale yeast and also flocculates very well. Most of the beers I make with this yeast reach terminal gravity in about 3-4 days and then the yeast goes to sleep and drifts right...

    nitro faucet/kit recommendations

Hey guys, my 40+ year old chest freezer (kegerator) is finally biting the dust, so I am building a keezer collar for a brand new chest freezer. I figured while I am at it, I'll add another tap handle....NITRO! Any recommendations on an inexpensive source for a good kit that does not...

    Why boil the wort chiller?

Everyone knows the commonly accepted practice is to add your immersion chiller during the last 15min of the boil in order to sanitize it....but why? From all of the research I have gathered, it only takes about 30seconds of immersion in a liquid of 170 degrees or more to sanitize something. I...

    Smoked Hops??

Has anybody ever used smoked hops before. The head brewer of a local brewery gave me about a pound of smoked Apollo whole leaf hops because they "were stinking up his cold room" lol. They are pretty pungent! What do you guys think?

    Mead Help

So I have been homebrewing for quite a few years, but have never attempted a mead. The grocery store had 3lb jugs of honey on sale for 8 bucks, so I made a one gallon batch. This is how I did it: 1. I added the honey and water together and pasteurized it. 2. Added 1/2tsp of brewcraft yeast...

So, learn to homebrew day was yesterday and my homebrew club did a demonstration event at a local brewery. Fermentation temp control

So I just got back from a deployment and moved into a new townhouse with a garage! I'm stoked about the new man cave/ brew location, but I live in northern Washington and the temps are in the low fifties in the garage, which is about the only place that I have to ferment in. What types of...
