Does anyone have some experience with this malt?

I used it as part of a porter recipe today and got terrible efficiency. I suspect it was due to the crush. The kernel size of this malt appeared to be much smaller than other gains but I ran it through the mill at the same gap as the rest of the grist.

Thoughts?

Also, while I was at the homebrew shop I was comparing it to Thomas fawcett amber malt. The amber was much darker in color and had more of a roasted grain bite to it than the brown malt. I always assumed amber was lighter than brown malt?
