almost dumped IT but tasted IT first...

So I brewed this last summer and planned on bottling before labor day but life happened. I thought it got infested by fruit flies (heheh I know but I planned on the name before then) and when I opened the fermenter I thought it was ruined. Lots of floaties and a big ring in the middle. Moved it...

    Saison Question

So I am planning on brewing a tank 7 Clone but have some issue with ferment temp. Still very mild weather here in Colorado and my basement is parked at 60F. My though is make a starter with WLP565 let it go for 4-5 days then pour off spent wort and add new wort and pitch with a more aggressive...

    refining my setup

Trying to refine my boil kettle setup so I can hit my bottling volume targets. So what do you predict your boil kettle trub loss volume is (with whirlpool and/or without whirlpool?) Do you keep this constant or is it dependent on volume and form of hops? If you whirlpool how long do you wait for...

    "Last" problem

Okay I've got down all grain with no problems, mostly. However, I have difficulty with hot wort to fermenter. Getting the wort cooled down and into the fermenter without contamination is my biggest challenge. I currently have aimmersion cooler but insulate my boil kettle I am boiling outside and...

    Old Beer

I just found what must be 3-4 year old beer. It was a bit over carbonated and had a bit of an off flavour (too much rye If I remember correctly) which is why it was forgotten. Besides a bit winey not bad. Whats the oldest beer you've had not intentially aged?

    Winter wort cooling

Need to start using a burner outside seeing my stove won't boil 6.5 gals. Any thought on cooling the wort when its too cold to use a hose? Otherwise I will have to carry 195 deg wort through the house. Kind of scarey. What do you do during the winter to cool your wort?

    Really, 60-90 minutes!?!

Reading BYO site on All Grain brewing and they recommending collecting the wort over 60-90 minutes! To me this seems like a very long time to drain the wort. Any thoughts? https://byo.com/newbrew/all-grain Look in Wort Collection.

    Water of Grain First

First batch of all grain in a few years. MO/fuggles smash. So I remembered putting the water in the mash tun first letting it settle on a temp then add the grain (all at once, oops?) but ended up with MANY dough balls. Much stirring smashing and wire whisking later I think I got them all. So...

    Hoppy infusion

I Have developed a new hop recipe...Hop infused cheese sticks. This is what happens when you leave a large bag of hop flowers in the freezer for too long. They actually tasted quite good. Cascade Hops Infused Fried Italian Cheese paired with a APA. Sophisticated.

    Traditional Bock Recipe development

Working on first lager and want to do a Bock. Planning on lower efficency around 60 but will check where i end up before end of boil and adjust from there. Anyway my primary question is how important is it to use hallterau hops. I have magnum (10%) willamette, fuggles EKG and palisades hops on...

    Yeast book

Looking for a book about yeast. Mostly interested in which strains will produce what profiles under different settings. Also, interested in harvesting yeast. Didn't find much in way of specific reviews of Jamil's book "Yeast: The Practical Guide to Beer Fermentation." Would this get me started?
