    Mold

I’ve been noticing clumps like this in my brewers malt. I’m sure I’ve brewed and drank several batches having not paid much attention to the clumps. Beer has been good. I have 100 lbs left. Any thoughts?

    Malt analysis

Wondering if someone could help me convert this malt analysis into beersmith? I’m not sure about potential, yield and course-fine diff. Thanks in advance.

    Element location

I have a 15 gallon SS BrewTech kettle that I would like to keep using snd not have to purchase a new kettle or punch a new hole in. I’m looking at a BrewBuilt Slingblade element. Is there any reason I wouldn’t want to install the element in the port just above the drain valve on my kettle? It...

    Brew room cart

I’m on the hunt for a cart/table on wheels that I can use to move my brew kettle across the brew room (about 15 feet) to the utility sink for chilling with immersion chiller. I’m looking at the one linked here and was wondering if anyone had experience with this particular one or other...

    SS Brewtech 1v ebrewing system

I am planning to make the switch to electric brewing as soon as SS gets more 20g 1v setups in stock. My question is, how long is the 240 cord that comes with the system. I plan to use an existing dryer outlet instead of installing a dedicated 240 circuit. The existing outlet is roughly 15 feet...

    Basement ventilation

I’m looking for advice and recommendations on installing a hood and vent fan out the side wall between the floor joists that are between the ducting and the radon pipe. It would have to vent horizontally out the side wall. I’m switching to all electric, so venting steam is my only goal. Also...

    Custom/personalized beer glasses

I’d like to get 8 or so custom printed beer glasses. Probably just basic pint glasses. Any recommendations on who to go through? cheers

    Cat Attack

So this is a new one for me. Had the 3787 smack pack on the counter warming up and getting ready to pitch into a 1 quart starter. Came upstairs and found the smack pack on the floor full of puncture holes from I’m assuming claws and teeth, yeast seeping out all over. I pitched into the starter...

    Bulk grain mishap

I keep my 2-row brewers malt and my Pilsner malt in multiple 5 gallon labeled buckets. I recently filled new buckets with a sack of each and forgot to label them, now I can’t remember which is which. I can’t tell a difference between smell or taste of the grains. Any suggestions? It’s not a huge...

    Extra wort

I’ve been brewing for about six years and had my system dialed in almost perfectly. A few months ago I bought a new brew kettle (SS Brewtech 15 gal) and I’ve been ending up with an extra gallon of wort after each brewing session. I still use my old kettle for measuring mash and sparge water, so...

    Markings off?

Anyone else come across this phenomenon? 4 gallons of water in my 15 gallon SS Brewtech kettle is about 1/2 gallon off.

    To much hops?

This is my standard DIPA grainbill. The last one I brewed used a combo of Simcoe, Amarillo and Citra for a total of 12 oz of hops. It turned out great. I’ve never used a full pound of hops in a 5.5 g batch before, nor have I ever used Azacca. For anyone who has used Azacca, does this seem to...

    Brown vs mild malt

I’m planning a Vienna lager clone that calls for 8oz mild malt (5g batch). I don’t have that but I do have brown malt and extra Munich II. Would either of those be a suitable substitute for the mild? Rest of the bill is 4.5lb both Vienna and Pilsner and 8oz c40. Thanks for any advice.

    Baltic Porter recipe critique

    Malt substitute

So my wife wants me to brew another batch of her favorite, my Munich Dunkel (it goes fast). The recipe is pretty simple with 90% dark Munich, 4.5% victory and 4.5% carafa special II (8oz). I only have 4oz of the carafa on hand. Would subbing 4oz of chocolate malt or even black patent, both of...

    Malt substitute

Im working on a clone recipe for an imperial brown where the original calls for Simpson’s 30/37L. What would be a good substitute? Based on the description I’m not sure just any similar L crystal would be the same. I’m thinking Caraamber but could be way off. Any suggestions appreciated. Cheers

    Patagonia c170 substitute?

I am attempting a clone recipe that calls for Patagonia c170 and I’m not sure I can get my hands on that. Is there a crystal malt that would be a good substitute? Thanks for any advice! Cheers

    Hop schedule

Having never brewed an IPA this big before or used this much hops, I’m just looking for a little feedback to see if my hop schedule looks good. Going for crisp, bitter, juicy crushability. I’m pretty set on the grainbill since I already milled it. I’m debating tossing another oz of each in at 5...

    Rye IPA critique

Looking for feedback on this recipe. Kinda kitchen sink with grains I’ve got lying around. Wanted to use centennial but will probably won’t have it in time. OG 1.062 IBU 54 SRM 13.5 10lb Pilsner 2lb 3oz rye malt 8oz C40 8oz C80 2oz Carafa Special II .5oz magnum 60 min 1oz cascade 30 min, 20...

    Shrinking Beer

Where I live the relatively new phenomenon is for restaurants to pour almost all craft beer into a 10 oz snifter and charge the same price as they had for a pint. Virtually every restaurant does it. A 6% IPA I was told last night was 10 ounces because of its high ABV! I’m just venting but also...
