    Daddy-daughter brewing

My older daughter was a daddy's girl from the start, in that tomboy sort of way. She's always been my shadow, a smaller and more female version of my tastes and interests and even physical appearance, with a small dash of my wife's personality thrown in to keep us from killing one another. The...

    New guy from MN!!

Welcome! I'm not a Minnesotan, but I have enjoyed a visit to your fine state for many summers. I'm a newbie myself, but this is a rather consuming hobby.

    The [Horribly Unpopular] Soccer Thread

You're spot on, Talgrath, especially about the international call ups. There was some god-awful soccer played by second and third stringers over the weekend. I'm a fan, so I watched--but it was painful at times. Also, that soccer field in Yankee Stadium is truly terrible. NYCvSKC was never...

    The [Horribly Unpopular] Soccer Thread

I think New England will get better as they get healthier. Dallas is scary good, with the advantage of having a lot of consistency from last year to this year. At least for the scoreless draw I attended (SKCvPOR), you had two teams still very much trying to figure their attack out. Sporting...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

I'm thinking my Mr. Beer keg is going to be put to precisely this use for my first experimental all grain batches.

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

I just sort of drank my first bottle of Mr. Beer last weekend, and it was surprisingly good! I say I "just sort of" because the bottle really wasn't close to done conditioning--it needed another week minimum, really two more weeks, before it was ready to drink. I chilled it and cracked it open...

    The [Horribly Unpopular] Soccer Thread

I'm usually a low-grade Portland fan, but I'm hoping they lose this weekend. Lord knows, we need the three points in KC. Despite the drubbing in Dallas, we actually played pretty well last weekend. The first goal was a rookie mistake, the second was a blown call by theAR, and the third was a...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'm not doing beer this weekend, but I am going to start a pear cider. My wife can't handle gluten and doesn't like beer, but she does like cider. This is essentially the bribe before trying some all grain batches.

    The [Horribly Unpopular] Soccer Thread

Afterwards, Dwyer said that his wife would have scored at least twice on the looks he got, which is probably true given who his wife is. Poor finishing aside, his work rate with a real finisher behind him this year (we hope) will pay dividends. In other news, Seattle is looking scary, but I...

    The [Horribly Unpopular] Soccer Thread

We're not in the Caldron. My wife tells me she's too old to stand for an entire match, so we sit with the oldsters on the west side.

    Who Does HBT at Work?

I read and sometimes even post from work. On the other hand, I work a lot. Like others above in the thread, I'm self-employed. My boss is a real jerk sometimes, though.

First gluten free all grain attempt

Thanks for the detailed recipe and the progress reports! My wife and most of her family have gluten issues ranging from full-on Celiacs to gluten intolerances, so I am looking to find a good gluten free recipe or two. My BIL doesn't like the sorghum GF brews that are commercially available, so I...

    The [Horribly Unpopular] Soccer Thread

I'm so excited to see a soccer thread . . . with a discussion of the MLS labor agreement drama, no less! The CBA looked grim for awhile. I'm glad the minimum salaries were raised--that'll help the depth over the next few seasons. We're season ticket holders in Kansas City. I'll be heading to...

    First batch bottled this morning

Good deal! I bottled my first batch today, too. Mine was from a Mr. Beer kit, which ain't fancy but was easy. My mother-in-law, of all people, got the kit for me as a present. I'm already scoping out an all grain setup--because I am nuts, probability. It's all pretty fun. Happy brewing!

Hi! Welcome aboard. I'm pretty new to this, too--I just bottled my first batch today. Lots of good info around here.

    [laughs maniacally]

Thanks for the welcome! I'm eager to try all-grain, which is part of the appeal of a 1 gallon system to me, at least to begin with. It seems like learning to use grains is easier at that size. I figure I can step up size if I have the need. As a single beer drinker household, volume will not...

    [laughs maniacally]

Thanks for the welcome! I love the idea of growing hops . . . for this year, at least, I am going to resist adding those to my gardening plans. I grew up in the Rolla area, for those familiar with those parts. I am currently sinking a lot of time reading about one gallon brewing here...

    Hello from the Sunflower State

It's good to know there are other Kansans on here. Sounds like you're a bit (or a lot) ahead of me on the brewing path. Happy brewing!
