    Higher temps in secondary?

Is it acceptable to finish active fermentation in a temperature controlled environment, then when transfering to a secondary allow it to sit at room temp? My wife keeps the house warm, around 76. I just want to be able to free up my fermentor after a month or so.

Priming sugar when bottling off keg?

Hello, My LHBS recommended that I put 2 of the small priming sugar tablets in each bottle when bottling off my keg. He said that in his xp, although already carbed, beer still tends to go flat after a couple days when bottled this way without the tabs. My beer is a hef, so it is already...

    Brewing with hot sauce?

Yes, bad rumor... The seeds contain no heat. It is the ribs that the seeds attach to that contain most of the heat. If a seed is hot, it us only because it got some oil from the ribs on it. I would suggest against using pure capsasium btw... If you must, look up a more suitable product such...

    BIAB. Preboil gravity way high...

You know, I don't think my calculator has an option to input grain loss... Might email the developer. Maybe trub loss?

    BIAB. Preboil gravity way high...

Ok, my calc called for an OG of 1.052. My actual OG is 1.055. So I was pretty close. Just probably need to up my efficiency a few points.

    BIAB. Preboil gravity way high...

    Here are my parameters. 8 oz American - Caramel / Crystal 60L 34 60 4.2% 10 oz American - Victory 34 28 5.3% 4 oz. American - Chocolate. 29 350 2.1% 10.5 lb 6 Row 37 2 88.4% Strike volume was 8.5g. Calc said preboil vol is 8g. My kettle isn't marked, so I dont know for sure. Mash...

    BIAB. Preboil gravity way high...

I just thought of this... Maybe the preboil gravity reading on the calc is telling what the gravity should read at mash temp? 154 degrees. I messed with a calc, and to get an equal adjusted gravity at 109 and 154, the 154 would have to be 1.040, which is much closer to my intended gravity...

    BIAB. Preboil gravity way high...

I am mid brew right now. My preboil gravity is suppose to be 1.036. I chilled to 109 to get a semi accurate reading. My gravity was 1.052... That is before temp adjustment too, so it is even higher. What the hell went wrong?

Dirty Blonde - Did I screw up?

So, how bad did I screw it up tastewise?

    Oddball idea...

I didnt follow other links, so sorry if i repeated... This work? Lay it on its side, and put the airlock in the air intake hole on the handle. Probably could hold 4.5g, or 5g with no extra space if you made a little extension off the air intake to airlock.

Mini Fridge Options for fermentation chamber?

I just bought a 4.4 Igloo from home depot online. Was $107, which is super cheap IMO. I too had to cut the shelves out of the door. You also have to unbolt the freezer shelf and bend it backwards along with the coolant line feeding it. Still pretty easy work if you ask me. Fits a carboy just...

Dirty Blonde - Did I screw up?

I hope I didn't screw up! This is only my second all grain/BIAB batch, so I am still pretty unfamiliar with my grains. I wanted to make a blonde, but I also wanted to try chocolate malt. Hence the Dirty Blonde! The issue is, I was plugging the recipe into my calculator. When I came to the...

Calculating Hop Weight when AA is different than recipe.

How do you figure out how much hops to use when the AA of your hops does not match the AA of the hops in your recipe? Obviously this is simple in a 1 hop beer. I assume just adjust the weight in your calculator until the final IBU is the same. But what about multi hop beers? My best...

    Losing CO2 quickly...

I just kegged my first batch. My 5lb CO2 tank was at about 900 psi starting out. After 24 hours at 30 psi, with a 7 minute knee rocking at the beginning, I turned the tank off and purged. Repressurized to 12 psi. The tank is now down to about 500 psi... The beer (hefeweizen) is almost...

    Cleaning Carboys......

Just ensure your using normal unscented bleach! Unless you like your beer smelling lemon fresh, or like clean linen...

    First BIAB Brew. Hefeweizen

I kegged last night. Beer was at 1.012. I brought it down to 36 degrees and then kegged. Turned the co2 up to 30, rocked it over my knee for 7 minutes, and refridgerated. Tonight I will purge and set it at serving pressure.

    Cleaning Carboys......

As far as rinsing well after bleach, just fyi, bleach that has been mixed with water will break down to saltwater after it has been exposed to air long enough. So whatever little amounts left if you didnt rinse it super well would be gone in 12-24 hours.

    Android: Wort homebrew calculator

Hey guys, On my last brew I used a new recipe calculator, and so far it seems to be working great! Wort homebrew calculator It has a very large ingredient database, and allows custom entries for just about everything. I dont know if the other calc do this, but after you enter...
