    Post your infection

(happened about a week after I added apricot puree from a bottle directly to fermenter which was already at around 10days) ...probably fine I think i'm going to cold crash this one for a month or so before I even taste it.

sugary feeling on front of teeth

I've been trying to figure out how to describe an off flavor that comes up on some of my beers over the years... Then i started to realize it was more of a texture that I didn't like it, feels thinner then it should be, slightly syrupy feel...if that makes sense. Most importantly I feel like it...

    Tap system balancing?

I tweaked mine a lot and eventually decided flow control faucets were a good investment when changing from different styles of beer once you get the system dialed in. I'll skip over mentioning that proper insulation of the draft line / tower was really important for me getting a good head and...

    Laggering in a swamp cooler

Cool, gonna put the lager in the swamp cooler tomorrow and tap the ale. I'm assuming if letting the temperature fluctuate as it heats up means that I shouldn't even bother lowering the temperature slowly when it's time to lager? Normally I raise the temperature 1 degree a day up front and drop...

    Bag, probe, & bazooka

I use to worry about the same thing, it has never been an issue. You think it's going to get caught but the bag just floats in there minding it's own buisness. Even stirring isnt an issue, I use a built in probe and a bazooka screen, and a wilser bag. The only time the probe and screen get in my...

    Excess foam

This might be hard to test because of all the foam, but what temperature does the first pint pour at? and what temperature does a pint that immediately follow it pour at?

    Big mouth bubblers

I have the plastic ones and I think they're great, 6.5 gallon for primary and as soon as the yeasts clean up their mess I switch it to the 5 gallon BMB for less headspace, then two weeks later I'll cold crash it and off to the keg. I have the screw on lids I use the double bung lid on primary...

    Chilling wort without wort chiller.

I don't think this was mentioned, recently lost my immersion wort chiller during my move, I plan on running 100' of silicone through an ice cold picnic cooler (jockeybox) and transfer my wart through the tubing ending with an aerator tip I figure about 90' will be in the cooler this should save...

    Computer fan power?

Is there is a way to figure out which computer fan will move more cubic feet of air per minute? I have two fans that I sourced from a computer I found by a dumpster. One fan is larger it is 3 3/8", 12v, and .19a the other is smaller 12v, 3" and .41a. I've used computer fans in the...

    ST Warlock Clone?

The batch I put together didn't come out the way I'd have liked it to. But hope remains as there's a few stored in the back of the closet. I might have to crack them this year now that you reminded me...damn you. The plan is to still give it another year to see what becomes if it. I also have a...

adding brown sugar to apple cider

Like Mark said it will only up your alcohol content, not add sweetness at least until the yeast hits max attenuation. When I first started making cider I only used brown sugar in all of my ciders and they never came out the way I wanted them to. Although it does give it a nice amber color. The...

    Applejack "scraps"

Would you say leaving headspace is good for ACV? I have at least 5 gallons of applewater left I could split it between two 5gallons, two 3gallons, or top off a 5gallon and stick an airlock on it.

    Applejack "scraps"

    Thanks, this is excellent info.

    Applejack "scraps"

Normally, when I make applejack I reserve the apple water that does not seperate and rejack that a few times. This year I do not have space in the freezer thanks to the holidays... So I drank some applewater and its bland but still sweet and tart. I can taste that its alcoholic, so like an...

Best book for beginner cider maker?

Books aren't bad but it's just the opinion or research of one person. Or a consolidation of many, you're on a forum with tons of people that post about this stuff in realtime. I would recommend reading anything that YOOPER writes on this subject. The search option is the magnifying glass on...

    Will I ruin my Cider?

    Cider Calls For 7.9G Fermenter

I think you'll be pleased with the results if its too strong for you, you could always dilute it back down to the kits specs...normally I don't dilute anything but if I was in your shoes every time I racked into a secondary I would top it off to kill the head space.

First batch started feed back please :)

Yes its quite normal especially with warmer solutions to begin ferment quickly. I don't think you did anything wrong from reading the above. Some things I always do differently then what you did, that are not right or wrong. I never use bleach on anything I intend on drinking. I like to take...
