Chop or puree watermelon for a watermelon wheat?

The title pretty much says it all. I'm about to go into secondary with my watermelon wheat, so I will be adding the pulp of one large watermelon to approximately 5 gallons of beer. The big question is... Should I puree the pulp, or just chop it up. I'm assuming puree will provide more surface...

Hops have almost no aroma. Worth keeping?

I was given an entire bine of fresh Nugget from a friends backyard. I've noticed as I have been picking and drying them that they have very little hop aroma, and smell more grassy. Is this something that should concern me? Should I waste my time with the last couple of pounds?

Oast project: Heat or no heat?

I'm contemplating build an oast, seeing as I keep getting my hands on wet hops and I lake the space to dry in the open and doing 8oz at a time in the dehydrator is a pain in the tuckus. So... I've looked at lots of designs and think I have the general idea of where I'm going. My one...

I love living in hop country!

We're hip deep in the hop harvest in these parts, and I got a message from my cousin today letting me know that she'd found some hops on the side of the road if I was interested. Of course I said yes. Hops will often fall of the trucks, etc during the harvest. She got home and sent me this...

    Using older hops

I was just given a SIGNIFICANT amount of older hops by a friend. They are all around 4 years old, but are all securely vacuum sealed and been stored in a freezer the whole time. Should I be making any adjustments to recipes if I'm using them? Are there any rules for how much hops degrade over...

    4.5" fermenter lid?

So, I bought a groovy 2.5 gallon glass jar a few months back that I've been using sporadically for experimental fermenting of small batches. See below. I simply drilled a hole in the cheap metal lid that came with it and have been using a bucket grommet to mount an airlock. I don't feel like...

    Ball lock beer line cleaner?

I'm trying to figure out a way to clean out my liquid lines quickly and easily without having to remove all of my connectors. What if like is to find something that is basically a ball lock post that I can attach my auto siphon to so that I can pump cleaner through the line without having to...

    Leasing CO2?

Does anyone here lease their CO2 tank? I'm trying to get my kegging set up together as cheap as possible in the short, so was contemplating this as an option. My schedule hasn't allowed me to call any shops, though. Any ideas on a ballpark lease price, specifically in the Pacific Northwest?

    Space Dust Clone critique

Here's a basic little recipe I'm thinking of trying. This is just a 5 gallon test batch... 10 lbs 2-row pale 4.5 lbs Carapils 1 lb C-10 1oz Chinook for 60 minutes 1oz Amarillo - 20 minutes 1oz Citra - 20 minutes 1oz Citra - dry hop 5 days 1 packet US-05 All the numbers seem to work out, and...

Stainless hose clamps for false bottom

I'm trying to find a source for all-SS clamps for the tube on my false bottom in my MLT. The clamps I was using were stainless for the clamp part but the adjusting screw was not and quickly rusted. What are people using for this, and where did you find it? Thanks!

Having a hard time finding a liquid tube

I'm in process in putting an old Firestone coke keg back together. It has no parts at all, so I'm converting it to ball lock and getting a lid, dip tube, and so on. I found almost everything I need for an awesome price from AIH, but everywhere I look is out of stock on the liquid pickup tubes...

Fixing a pinhole in a corny

A friend gave me an old pin lock keg with an identified pinhole leak. I was wondering if a little JB Weld would be an acceptable way to do that?

Question on priming naturally fermented cider

A friend gave me 10 gallons of naturally fermented cider that I need to go ahead and bottle up. This is my very first time doing anything with cider, so I really don't know how much corn sugar I should use to prime it. It's dry, and been fermenting under pressure for 3 years, so it's well aged...

Removing adhesive residue from sticker style labels

I'm not exactly certain of the best place to ask this, so I came here. :-) I have acquired a large amount of bottles from a local craft brewer. Some of them are unlabeled, which is awesome. The ones that ARE labeled have a sticker style label that is similar to tyvek or the like. You can peel...

Choosing a burner on a budget

I need to get a burner, possibly two, to get my brewery going on a more robust track. I'm using converted kegs. Well, one euro style at the moment but I'll soon be adding at least one 1/2bbl, maybe two. I need to find a reasonably priced burning that will bring 13+ gallons in a keg to a boil...

Should I put a screen on the diptube in my kettle?

I recently installed the Anvil diptube in my keggle, with a length of silicone tubing to get it all the way to the bottom alongside the wall. Works great! I realized I have a small screen designed to fit over the end of a racking cane. I've had it for years and have never used it. It fits very...

Nylon Washers safe to use INSIDE boil kettle?

I want to make sure that using a nylon washer inside my kettle is not going to melt, add off flavors, or possibly kill me and my entire family in some sort of post-apocalyptic summoning of dark powers beyond my ken. Basically, I just want to use one as a spacer inside a fixture to adjust the...

My 10 Barrel Pray for Snow clone. Opinions welcome!

This is a clone recipe I worked up of Pray for Snow from 10 Barrel Brewing. It's a 5 gallon extract brew here, but I'm in the process of converting it to a 10 gallon all-grain batch. Any input on how to approach that would be welcome. :-) I will say that this is probably the best beer I've ever...

Installing the polycarbonate sight glass from brewhardware.com

I purchased this kit from brewhardware: https://www.brewhardware.com/product_p/sb.htm. I'm very pleased with the quality, as well as the price. The link below will take you to an album of photos documenting the process. Enjoy! https://imgur.com/gallery/mbpYC

    Minimum sight glass reading?

I installed and took a gander at calibrating my polycarbonate sight glass from brewhardware.com. It's easy and looks great, I recommend it! Anyway, I have it installed with a T in conjunction with my thermometer, off to the side of my valve. When adding water to calibrate, I got no reading on...
