Leaky compression fittings on HERMS coil

I was hoping to report good news but instead I'm at my wits end. I got the proper tools and used some food grade lube and got maybe another 1/4 turn out of them. The leak is still there The stainless ferrule is without a doubt swaged on. I'm lead to believe the leak is between the outside of...

Leaky compression fittings on HERMS coil

What would the temperature rating be for those o-rings? I have some, and considered that, but decided not to. Only a HERMS coil in an HLT, but it will still get up to 180 max.

Leaky compression fittings on HERMS coil

Hey guys, I haven't reposted yet because I haven't attempted it yet. To bobby's point I was using channel locks. Clearly it didn't work and it beat the hell out of the nut. I only have one crescent wrench big enough for the job so I'm going to pick up another this weekend, add some soap (per...

Leaky compression fittings on HERMS coil

Trying I install a new stainless 1/2" HERMS coil I got from stainless brewing. I'm using Brew Hardware's true weldless bulkhead with 1/2" compression fitting in order to secure it to my pot. I have never used stainless ferrules until today and for the life of me I can't get it to stop leaking...

How to add permanent volume markings to a kettle (illustrated)

https://www.brewhardware.com/category_s/1887.htm Here is an article that came out of a thread that originated on HBT. There are several methods you can use but I like this one, because I already owned an angle grinder. It takes a while though. Few hours, by the time it's all said and done...

    Review: SSBrewTech Chronical 7Gal Fermenter

You would never be able to fit the probe in WITH the probe Ss brew tech provides, but you may be able to substitute it. I'm unfamiliar with the stc 1000 probe but I use a Johnson A419 and it fits the Ss Thermowell like a glove. I'll like never use the provided thermometer

    Keggle mash tun

I've got to know more about your keg cleaning process? I was just getting ready to polish, but this looks cooler IMHO. Was there a particular order that you used scotch bright and bar keepers? Did you use an angle grinder to help with the scrubbing? My compliments, those kegs are sweet...

Scottish Ale aging - how long is TOO long?

If it's been on the yeast for 8 months I'd say you have an issue, but if it's just been lagering then you're totally fine. He mentions in the show that he kept that keg around for several years as it continued to win comps. I brewed that 60/- and kept it around for about a year.... Got better...

does this look infected to you?

If you gave me a beer that smelled fine, tasted fine, and had the proper finish for the style, and then you told me it was infected... I'd still drink it. No known pathogens exist in beer, so I'd trust the smell and taste senses before that of sight, but that's just my 2 cents Sent from my...

    WLP 833 Slow Start?

18 hrs is pretty quick. With proper pitching rates, and well oxygenated (pitched at 44f) wort I usually see wlp833 kick in between 24 and 36 hrs. It's not exactly a quick yeast either. I tend to use the set it and forget method as opposed to a d-rest; leaving the beer at a steady 49, I still...

    Keggle won't sit on burner

I ran into the same problem and had some left over pavers from a new patio I put in. I simply stacked the pavers in 4 pedastools around the burner. The keg rested on the pavers (I kicked it like crazy to make sure this was stable and I wasn't going to burn my garage down). The bricks are...

    Ale fermentation temperature

I don't know what your space is like, but if it were me I would move the "old ones" to some other place in the house and control the "new ones to a precise temp. Chances are the old ones are done fermenting, or at least within a point or 2 of SG. The problem with leaving the old ones in a...

Before I used my pump, I wish someone would have told me...

Do you guys vorlauf with a pitch or anything before you vorlauf with the pump? Basically is the heavier grain that comes with the first runnings a big deal, or can the pump handle it? Also: say I'm finishing my batch sparge and moving everything to the kettle. What do you do right at the end...

There is an entire thread on bleeder valves right below this.... My bad! Disregard!

Before I used my pump, I wish someone would have told me...

Stuff like this is exactly what I needed to hear. I've seen a couple things about the extra valve off of the T. I understand the theory (maybe) but would someone mind describing the process of when they actually open/shut the valve and how they use this to prime the pump?

Before I used my pump, I wish someone would have told me...

Chugger pump is in the mail, can't wait to add it to the brew stand! I've heard before that one of the largest learning curves in equipment additions can come from using a pump. I mash in a 72 quart Coleman cooler. Plan to use the pump to recirc for vorlauf, transfer to keggle, and whirlpool...
