    Rookie Lemonade Mead

So I've decided to give mead a go. I have a about 10 batches of beer, 1 batch of cider under my belt so why not. I got the basis of the recipe off another thread and did some minor changes; it seemed simple and popular. Recipe: 1 gal water(PUR filter tap) 5lbs clove honey(Sue Bee at...

    Stuck Fermentation HELP!!!

I have a gingerbread stout sitting in the primary for going on almost 2-weeks. I pitched the WLP 011 pretty cold at like 62 and it was been fermenting at 64-66 degrees. I notice krausen has fallen and no airlock activity so I decided to take a measurement. OG 1.054(10/27) measure gravity...

    Chocolate nibs unexpected flavor

This is my first time using nibs(4oz nibs in secondary). I racked my porter onto nibs and 2 vanilla beans about a week ago. I took a small sample today and the flavor is drastically different than it was before. Out of the primary the porter was still sweet and quite delicious, but now just 7...

    Secondary temp for chocolate nibs

I'm racking my mocha oatmeal porter on 4oz of nibs that have been soaking in vodka for a couple days. What is the optimal temp for the secondary? I usually keep all my beers below 72 at all times but do I let it get warmer for the nibs?

    Chocolate Nibs and cheap vodka

I'm brewing a Mocha Oatmeal Porter and I'm soaking my nibs in vodka for about 72hrs. I'll dump them in the secondary and then rack my beer on top of it for a couple weeks. Am I on the right track? I'm scared that I've possibly put my beer in danger by using cheap vodka to soak my nibs in...

I know there is a ton of threads on here about toasting oats but I still haven't really found my answer. The question is....if I toast my oats will that dry out the oils that add to mouthfeel and head retention? I do want the toasty undertone but I don't want to lose the other attributes of...

    Is my starter ruined

I've been growing a yeast starter from a washed yeast sample for a couple days. Today's just noticed an eyelash or some kind of short hair(no not curly) floating in the foam. I'm scared I've ruined my work or will it have more flavor haha. What's the best way to tell if it's contaminated before...
