    Five year old smack pack

My dad had a buddy that he made wine with. Said buddy also brewed beer. Buddy died and dad ended up with his yeast. I now have a smack pack of Wyeast 1084 with a born on date of Sept 2015. Not worth the trouble, I'm assuming?

Did SN change their Pale Ale recipe?

https://www.sierranevada.com/beer/year-round/pale-ale I know for a FACT that this used to say Magnum and Perle.... And doing a clone of it (with info off the above link) is the only reason I would have ever bought perle hops...

    Hey slurry (re)Pitchers

I grabbed this jar from a batch I just got done bottling. I didn't add any water. I'm brewing a 1.070 OG batch in a few hours. You guys just pitch the prescribed (Mr Malty -- 1/2 cup) amount of this muck into the new batch, is that right?

Recipe Critique/Thoughts on a Dry Hop

Hi all. I came up with this Red DIPA last year and finally got around to it. (My first 'own recipe') I'm hoping it's more of just a red colored IPA than a hoppy red. Had a bunch of Simcoe I wanted to use, so I did. Will probably try to make it again (and tweak it if need be). The...

    Oktoberfest Recipe Help/Critique

Hi all. This is my first attempt at creating my own recipe. I want something along the lines of Paulaner's Octoberfest Marzen. I want to brew an extract Oktoberfest that I don't have to lager. I have looked to EdWort's for inspiration (...

    Hop sub question

I have an extract IPA recipe that is hopped as follows: .75oz Simcoe - 60min 1oz Cascade - 15min 1oz Centennial - 10min Here's my question: I only have .5oz Centennial and want to brew tomorrow. What can I use for the other .5oz/or sub for? I have Columbus, Simcoe, Cascade as options. Thanks!!

    Carapils vs Carafoam

So, I've seen that these are interchangeable. Is that correct? If so, why have two of the same thing? What are the differences? Are they even needed if using all DME?

Storing Star San - Fermenting Bucket?

I bottled a batch today and plan on brewing again next weekend. Am I ok to store the 2 1/2 gal of star san I mixed up today in my fermenting bucket until next weekend?

Cold crash and time to carbonate

So, I realize a ton of people cold crash (and a bunch even use gelatin) so my issue isn't with 'will there be enough yeast'. Does cold crashed beer take longer to carb up, or it it sufficiently re-warmed by the time you are done bottling?

    Last minute cold crash

I intend to bottle a 5 gallon batch of Pale Ale tomorrow. Will I get any benefit from cold crashing tonight? I would have to do it outside where it is 33* right now and is supposed to get to 27-28. Would I have to worry about freezing? Worth it or not?

    Northern Brewer Kit Instructions

Need to get my mind off my first batch that is less than a week in bottles, so I've been looking at the kits on Northern Brewer for something to try as my second batch (and to give specialty grains a whirl) and was wondering about their instructions...

How close is close enough? (FG)

Hi all, I am hoping to bottle my first batch this weekend and was wondering if it will be ready. Here's the scoop... Ingredients, calculated values and "instructions" can be found here: http://www.brewhorizons.net/true_brew_amber.htm Luckily for me, I found this site before brewing...

    Fermenter temperature

Hi guys, I have my first batch 'cooking' in the fermenter (True Brew Amber Ale) I feel like everything went well - got the wort down under 80deg in less than 30 min, aerated well, pitched at about 72deg. The bucket is down in my basement and has been churning out about a bubble a second...
