    Help me make Muscadine wine?

Hello everyone! I am working on a plan to make a muscadine wine as a gift. I purchased some 100% premium muscadine juice to do so. Gravity of the juice is around 1.068. I have Kveik and Premeire Blanc yeast and would like to make this a wine that is sweet or at minimum on the sweeter side...

    Pectic Acid.

Hi everyone! Your friendly neighborhood mead maker here. Up until now, I've never used "extra" ingredients like tannins and pectic acid. I just was curious. I seem to make flavorful meads and wines without these things so.. do you think Pectic Enzyme is really necessary?

[Journal] Insanely High Gravity Mead (And other projects)

Hey folks! It's time for another run! So, if anyone of you know me and how I work, I tend to brew in very small batches. Typically a single gallon a piece, until I find a recipe I really like and brew a 5 to 7 gallon. So for these recipes, I'll be doing all single gallon brews. I plan to start...

Super High Gravity Mead! Idea Bouncing!

H'okay. So. I've got White Labs Super High Gravity (WLP099) that I picked up on a whim, and I'm now in the planning stages of making a brew fit for the gods! Or maybe one that would just get the gods good and drunk. The idea is to try to hit that 25% mark in a mead. So I did a few...

    Apple-Mead Idea.

Okay, so in a search for something fun to try, I came up with an idea that may not make much sense at first glance, but I the more I think of it, the more I want to try it. So I found some Sprouts Organic Unprocessed Apple Juice which, after doing a bit of searching through the forums, I found...

    Re-Introducing Myself!

Hey everyone! I've been a member here for a while but I haven't logged in and talked in a long, long time! So I figured I would say hello to everyone again. My first beer ever was an all-grain pumpkin beer. I spent a long while making all-grain beers as well, and I made a few great ones...

    Well, this is strange.

Made a pumpkin beer. Recipe (what's in it): 2row barley 6row Barley Crystal Malt Pumpkin Meat Irish Moss Spices The wort was thick coming out. Topping off with water lead to this emulsification. Very strange. Any ideas?

    Low starting gravity, keeping anyway!

Just made a pumpkin ale! Used the rest of my 50/50 2row/6row mix with pumpkin and spices. The wort smelled and tasted JUST like pumpkin pie, which is good, but the starting gravity was about 1.028 - 1.03 which is low but I figure it's worth keeping for the flavor alone. It's a bummer that the...

    Licensing and suchlike.

Hello! I am very interested in trying to get a license in order to be able to sell my homebrew, but I am unsure if this is even possible. The permits in Colorado are a little confusing but basically I was curious on if there would be any way to be able to home brew and sell what I make. Of...

How to figure out how much water to add.

I've noticed that during boil, water decreases by almost half. How should I determine, for making recipes, how much water I should have in the fermenter in order to bring the amount to the desired level?

    Not enough hops?

Hello. I wanted to make beer today but I found out that I have about 8 or 9 pounds of malt, and only about 14.5g of Zeus hops! I don't have the cash to go buy more.. so would it be a terrible waste if I used only this much? Any tips?

Help with a hypothetical startup cost!

Hello everyone! I wasn't sure where to put this so I hope it's in the right place. I was thinking today about how beer breweries acquire and deal with their malts and hops and waste products and it got me wondering.. 1. How much would it cost to have enough land to produce it's own malt...

    An odd concoction recipe, lol.

So after my big rookie mistake: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/rookie-mistake-costs-me-cash-353150/ I took what was left of the wort (about a gallon) and boiled it down to about half. It was weak since it was last runnings so I'm adding sugarwater to it. Like so: 1/4 cup turbinado sugar 1...

Rookie mistake costs me cash. :(

This is what I saw a split second after adding my hot wort to my carboy in a coolwater bath. There WAS cold water inside the carboy already but apparently it was not enough to cool it down fast enough to prevent the outside coldness from snapping the carboy right along the bottom. So. Two...

    Six row recipes?

Hello again everyone! I accidentally put the six row malt in the bag with the two row at 50/50 consistency. Are there any styles or recipes that use this kind of malt? What kind of beer might it make? I was thinking about using it with a pound of my remaining chocolate malt with my reused...

Creating a wild yeast starter. Interesting!

http://youtu.be/w-GmnAD4J7E This video shows how this lady apparently catches wild yeast and makes it into bread. Could this be used to try and make a starter for wild yeast brews, maybe? Hope this helps someone.

I don't mean to offend, but..

I've done a lot of searching and dabbled in brewing my own cider and it honestly seems like the recipe is so very simple. Apple Juice/Cider + Yeast = Hard Cider. Is it just me or does this not seem as complicated as folks make it out to be? Find the right juice or cider, and add a good...
