PLEASE let the Northern Brewer buy-out be a hoax!

Just beginning to notice that many of the Wyeast and White Labs yeasts are sold out at NB. Omega seems well stocked. Omega is a good product, but are we seeing a major brand shift after the buyout?

    Hi All!

Welcome back! Been brewing off and on for 30+ years myself. There are a few of us dedicated Brewers in southern MN including the one and only Mr. Klubb in Windom. Great bunch of people here!

    Whoel Grain Storage Life

Properly stored, crushed grains can last for a year or more. Cooler and dry, less than 50% humidity. Use a sealable container like a 5 gal pail with a gamma lid or one of those gasketed bins used for pet food. Anything to keep out the wildlife. I have made great beers with grains pushing 2 years.

Sumbi*ch is tougher than boiled owl. Which, btw, is the name of an IPA I made last year.

Advice needed on Chillers Plate or Counterflow

I have used plate chillers for about 10 years. As long as I used a little filtering like a SS scrubby over the dip tube, I have never had any clogging issues. I have been running a Duda chiller with a pump system without a filter lately with no real issues, but I use hop extract and a spider...

    HopShot and Beersmith 2.2

I used Brew Brothers calculator to determine hop extract weight to get IBU 50 in a brew with OG of 1.068. Answer was 4.65 at default utilization of 20.34%. I set up hop extract in BS2.2 and I needed to set the AA TO 102% to get 50 IBU from 4.65 ml (.157 oz.) in a brew that uses 11 lbs of 2-row...

    Beer Back in the Day

I first brewed back in 1980. My equipment consisted of an old enameled roaster and a trash pail. Sanitized with hot water and bleach. No hydrometer, yeast from the health food store, pre-hopped malt extract. Made several brews that were Pretty good compared to the limited stuff you could buy at...

    Crushing grain without a mill?

Do you have a homebrew store nearby? They might let you use their mill if you ask or if you buy some other grains. I did this this first couple of times before I took the plunge on a mill. Otherwise get out the rolling pin and some freezer bags. Some have tried beating on the grains with a...

    Where to get CO2?

I usually use a place that fills fire extinguishers. Runs about 18 bucks for 5 lbs. Costs do vary by vendor so check around. Otherwise check out a welding supply store, but the ones in my area want to do tank exchange. Sux if you have a really nice newer tank.

    120v RIMS controller build problem

SSR typically do not turn completely off. There is always residual power coming through. Not sure if the 43V is common, mine runs around 36. This is why most panel build circuits call out a contactor to open the line from the SSR to the outside of the control box.
