El Dorado hops. Has anyone tried them yet?

I just ordered an IPA kit from Midwest and it uses El Dorado hops throughout. There is supposed to be a ton of tropical fruit character with this hop, but it's my first time using them, so I'm not sure what to expect. So, who has used them? What did you think?

Schmilding malt mills. Are they worth the money?

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a malt mill, and have narrowed it down to 2 brands. I'll either be buying a Monster mill (MM2) or a Schmilding adjustable mill. I have to order the Monster, but my LHBS has the Schmilding mill in stock. Which would you guys choose, and why?

    SNPA yeast type?

I just harvested yeast from a 6 pack of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale for a new batch I'm doing this weekend. My question is, what strain of yeast do they use? I've heard it was Chico, but I can't find a definitive answer (I searched the site, and also the web). Also, what other beers does this strain...

Just bought a pin lock system

Hey guys, I just bought a kegging system from Midwest today. Its a pin lock system with 2 kegs, a dual regulator, and a 5 lb CO2 cylinder. I'm a complete newb when it comes to kegs, so I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions about systems, kegs, etc. My first question is: why are pin lock kegs...

    US-05 for Kolsch??

I ordered a Cologne Kolsch extract kit from Midwest Supplies, and got the premium dry yeast option. When I opened the kit today, it had US-05 yeast. My question is; is this the right yeast to use for this style? If it's not, should I order something different, or just use what I got? Thanks.

    I couldn't help myself....

Well, as much as I tried, I couldn't wait the full 3 weeks in the bottle before trying my first batch (MW Autumn Amber Ale). I bottled my beer last Wednesday, and put one in the fridge last night, as a "test" bottle. It was Delicious! Yes it was still green, and somewhat flat, but it was way...

Just finished brewing my first batch!

Well, I finally got my first batch in the fermenter, and in the ferm chamber (chest freezer) today. It's an Autumn Amber Ale kit from Midwestern supplies. Now I just need to leave it alone for 3 weeks, if I can. The thing that sucks though is that I broke my friggin' hydrometer before I could...

    Newbie from Tulsa

Hey guys, I'm in the research stages of brewing, but will be gathering equipment for my first batch soon. I guess the reason for my interest in home brewing is that I spent a few years overseas (Germany), and since I came home, I have a very hard time finding the beers that I liked when I was...
