At the end of a brew there was a bunch of buildup in the bottom of the brew pot. Smelled like hops. Is this a problem?

This is my second brew and I borrowed what I thought was a 6 gallon carboy but maybe it's bigger??
I'm afraid there is too much head space. Should I rack it to a smaller carboy?

Thanks for the feedback. I used three clamps I just didn't take pictures of all three. But glad you said something cause if I didn't I'd definitely have a leak!

Around $40 but it could be even cheaper because you could go to a plumber supply house and get even cheaper prices.
I found an economy wort chiller online for $35 plus shipping but this way I was able to custom fit it to my new pot.

I really didn't set out to make a step by step instructional guide but really with just a bit on ingenuity and creativity anyone can figure this out.
This chiller literally took me more time to purchase the materials in Home Depot than to actually assemble it.

I'm brewing a Pale Ale next! Pb brown ale sound interesting. How strong was the peanut butter? Is it similar to adding chocolate where there is just a hint?

Yeah it's going to be strong. I tasted it while I was transferring it to secondary. It's was drinkable but probably only for people who doesn't mind a little kick.
I recently just transferred some hard cider to the secondary and to this reading. In the picture the hydrometer is up against the thief but it was the same when I had the thief straight up and down.

I recently just finished my first attempt at beer. I was wondering if large amounts of water loss during the boil is common. I boiled 2.5 gallons of water but after the boil I had to add the other .5 gallon and 84 ounces to get back to the 2.5 gallons. It's around 1.2 gallons of loss.
