    Keg hopping with El Dorado?

Howdy all, So, I recently keg hopped a nice NEIPA with Mosaic and loved it. I put 3 oz into a stainless hop cylinder and it gave a little extra kick of aroma and just a little something extra that carried through into the glass. I was worried about grassy or vegetal flavors, but I didn't get...

Didn’t crush...thinking about adding brown sugar.

So I made a rookie mistake today : / With too much on my mind I was rushing through a brew session and just dumped my grain Into the mash tun...before crushing it. I realized when I opened the cooler to drain the first runnings. I’m not going to expect much from this batch, but what do...

How much can a bottle handle?

Hi all, I am relatively new to brewing higher gravity beers and I have never considered how much pressure regular 12 oz bottles can handle. I have a cider in the secondary that had an OG of 1.048 and finished at about .99 and looks like it will be about 8-9% ABV. This would be the highest...

    How fast should I lauter?

I've been thinking of switching over to an orange rubbermade cooler with a false bottom, and switching over to fly sparging with a sparge arm as long as I'm going to make the change. Right now I'm doing the batch sparge in a homemade mashtun made from a square picnic cooler with a homemade...

    How fast should I lauter?

Thanks, sm007thie. What's your setup like?

    How fast should I lauter?

Thanks everyone. I should have been clearer-I am draining through tubing, but I've been opening the valve just enough not to splash the hot wort as it drains into my kettle. I'm also batch sparging, not fly/continuous sparging, so that makes sense that it would be faster/shorter for me-thanks...

    How fast should I lauter?

Hi all, I've been searching for ways to increase my effieciency. I ready in Brew Your Own this month that it helps to collect your first runnings at a slow trickle-anywhere between 60-90 minutes. I've usually just opened my valve and drained slowly enough to avoid splashing the wort, but...

My color is too light...not sure why

Thanks, JM, Give or take, all the batches turn out 5-10 SRM lighter than the standard for the style. For example, the oatmeal stout was more like a porter, and the amber was more like a pale ale (probably 12 or so SRM).

My color is too light...not sure why

Hi all, I just recently made the jump to all grain, and overall I'm really satisfied with the final product. I have five batches under my new belt: an American Pale Ale, a pumpkin ale, an Amber, an oatmeal stout, and a British bitter. Each of these was pretty good, but each was lighter in...

My wheat beer turned out dark...

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm anxious to see what it looks like when it finally makes it to a glass. I appreciate all the feedback!

My wheat beer turned out dark...

It was a kit from Northern Brewer: (no specialty grains) 6 lbs Wheat extract (65% wheat, 35% barley malt) 1 oz. Willamette @ 60 mins 1 oz. Cascade @ 15 mins. safeale K-97 dry yeast I put about 15% of the extract into the boil for the first 45 mins with the willamette, then added the rest of...

My wheat beer turned out dark...

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie, so hopefully this isn't too basic of a question. I brewed an American wheat, which was in the primary for two weeks (per the kit's instructions). I racked to the secondary last night and the beer was much darker than after the boil. I did a late extract...
