Glad it turned out. Was reading through the read and was going to suggest letting it sit at 68-70 for a couple more weeks. You will find sometimes that the beer you let sit longer will sometimes be your best brews. Thats why i will "forget" some bottles on purpose and drink them months later...
Looks like a yummy beer non the less. Like the rest said, chill haze. Like you said as well, some clarifying agents would have made that baby sparkle! Still looks delish.
I could see that happening haha. My neighbors already know I brew, because I give them some from time to time. Totally could see the same reaction though if I had never told them.
Thanks so much for the tips everyone! Building a wind screen will definitely be a good idea. My backyard is pretty concealed but can get gusty still. I will most likely be brewing beside my house, where it is mostly shaded. I am doing all grain so i'm going to just have everything out there. I...
Hey there guys,
I will be doing outdoor brewing this summer. I have a 9 Gal brew pot that I use for my 5-6 gallon batches. I just picked up a 66,000 btu propane burner used for 30$. It works perfect and sounds like a beast.
Anything i should consider moving to outdoors? And will this burner...
That awesome! Makes bottling look so simple :P. At 1:03 i thought your capper was a playstation controller. Was thinking to my self, i wonder why he has a controller on his table? Than, I realized it was a capper, lol. Did you just have a camera rapid firing on a tri-pod?
Not sure how much wort those kits produce, but i'd say go with a larger pot. Alot of times, depending on brew, a 60 min boil will boil off a gallon of wort. So for a 5 gallon batch your looking around 6 gallons pre-boil. I use a 9 gallon and at a rolling boil it gets pretty darn close to the brim.
I've done a handful of AG batches, so im no expert. From what i've seen with my own brews, i'd say it just had a nice strong fermentation and flocculated to the top. Cold crashing will bring it all down to the bottom. The reasoning behind flocculation staying at the top is unknown to...
This makes me feel alot better. It wasn't a ton of starSan, probably not even a 1/2 ounce. Just made me nervous when i saw all that ended up in my beer. Thanks guys.
Hey there,
So I had my carboy sitting in my fridge overnight because im going to be bottling today. Wanted to cold crash and use some gelatin to clear it up.
I had a blow-off valve in a jug of starsan/water. The jug was fairly full maybe around 2-3 cups of water. I opened my fridge to see a...
Be patient. Airlocks can be deceiving. Like Boydster said, air can escape more from the sides than through the lock. Not sure how much you opened the lid, i used to crack it open a bit to take a peak sometimes as well. If you do this, sanitize your hands. 99% of the time nothing bad will happen...
Just an update for those who were helpful. I did a 90 min boil, i missed my OG by quite abit. Was supposed to be around 1.57 but ended up at 1.47. I didn't heat the mash tun, totally forgot. Usually i'm never that far off. I added honey to it after the krausen started to fall, and this helped to...
Awesome you got to pick up some info while you were visiting! I just drank a crap ton of beer when I visited. Tripel karmeliet is one of my favorite beers that I've ever tasted! I also tried alot of local beers, almost nano/micro style brews and they all tend to be just as great as the big names.
