I realized that my angle grinder's hand guard was destroying all my pads at the edges way too early. I dropped a lot of cash to polish the inside of the guard. (Destroyed about finishing pads and about 6 polish pads).

Once I took it off, things sped up real fast.

On a related note: Make sure your music earbuds are tucked inside your shirt before operating an angle grinder with the guard off. My right hand and right part of my chest hurt right now and I am going to have some sweet looking bruises. :drunk:

Harbor Freight has an angle grinder for $9.99! with a coupon. Its $15 without coupon. If the grinder makes it the whole way through I'll be thrilled.

I looked forever at Lowe's site, finally got everything from HF. Here are links:

I'll also need a medium sanding pad from lowes. I'm about 1/2 way with the abrasive wheel. So I can't vouch for everything working. But I'll update with the final results....Eventually.

have you tried the harbor freight polishing compounds and sanding discs yet?

I have one more MLT keggle I need to polish up and harbor freight is right down the street and I need polish and pads, but lowes is out of the way.

So out in SoCal the Lowes are few and far between. They don't seem to carry the soft polishing pads so I bought a polishing pad made for a bench grinder. I adapted it to fit my angle grinder, but I'm not getting the results from it like I got on my first two kegs. I can't find those Gator Pads on line or locally.

Any ideas without buying another tool just for polishing? I'm about half way done. I might stay Fuggit and leave it as is.

If I'm not mistaken you can buy the gator pads from Lowes on line and have them delivered to your house.

not anymore. I just spent 30 minutes on the phone with Lowes. there are only 200 of these pads available at lowes. this is a regional item and not all stores carry these or can order them. Gator does still make the pads and has inventory on them but Lowes is not buying them. I have tried finding another brand but come up empty.

The two stores I bought the pads from previously don't even stock them and can't order them.

I did find this site: http://www.aliexpress.com/price/angle-grinder-buffing-wheel-price.html it looks like you can order these from China. im not sure how long shipping would take and if you would even end up with product. but the pads look about 20 times thicker than the Gator Brand pads.

Menards also carries them. Maybe someone near a Menards could help you out.

Menards isn't in Southern Cali, but im done with all 3 of my keggles now, but I wouldn't mind some more pads to do touch up work and those China once I would be willing to give a try.

$40 per corny.

At that rate, I'll deal with polishing up whatever I want myself. I don't have a need to have the corny kegs nice and shiny. Since they're in a fridge when on tap (not visible) and in the basement the rest of the time. I can think of far better uses for those funds...

True... Considering the fact that I only have three corny kegs which I picked up from craigslist for $18. So, the $40 is not a big number for a shiny keg. Considering that used corny kegs go for $40-$60 bucks at the local lhbs or online.

For $120 I can get more reloading mats, more parts for builds, or supplies for anodizing (at home). The outside appearance of the kegs doesn't impact how the beer tastes from them.

Well good for you.

I can completely understand polishing a keggle, since you'll probably be looking at it for hours on brew day. Polishing a corny keg, IMO, is a waste of time and/or money (if you pay someone else to do it). You see it for moments when you change kegs, or when it's out of the way waiting for a spot on tap.

I think the polished corny looks awesome. if I get a wild hair up my butt I might try my luck doing one of mine.

I think it falls under the category of more money AND brains! This looks awesome, and is a project I'm going to take on - either myself or find someone to do it.

How about this guy? No money and no brains...

So I finally did it, I read every single page of this thread and followed Bobby M's directions exactly. Granted my keggle has seen some battles in its day and is scratched and dented to hell, but it looks amazing. All in all it took about 5 hours to do and really wasn't as hard to do as I figured it would be.

I kind of like the small dings and deep scratches in mine. I gave it cosmetic surgery after 20 years of external and internal abuse...

Now it looks awesome! Needs an final polish still though...

Does anyone elses have still have small dents (mainly on the outer rings) safter all the steps? I have some that look like you rolled it over concrete...just tiny indentions on the rungs. Swirl marks are still present too, but overall it looks good and a hell of a lot better than before.

BTW, mine are taking forever and I looked at a local shop to do the other two kegs since I finished one bymyself. They said they have never polished a keg before and wanted $250.00 per keg......so I will be finishing the others myself.

that right there is the million dollar jackpot. even though im done with my keggles i might pick up a few pads anyways. -=Jason=-

Yeah I have two more to do. I might pick up a few more though for random other stuff

Finished mine up using bobby M's method along with some special stainless steel polish that I found. Over all it can be done with great results using this method but man its allot of work.....as everyone here I think already knows lol happy polishing everyone.

OK val - you got me started. I've now polished 3 of my corny kegs, and they look great!! I used the gator pads from Blain's Farm & Fleet (thanks to mattyb85) and some metal polishing compound I got at Lowes. I take about 30 minutes to polish them as I empty each keg. That way I don't spend too much time obsessing over the shine. When I use them again, I hit them once more with the fine pad to take care of the spots I was too lazy to fuss with the first time.

I put my polished kegs in the front inside my upright keezer, so when I open the door to show my friends, the shine comes through.
