    Frozen Lager

Ok everybody, an unfortunate series of events has resulted in my Maibock being frozen, so I guess I now have an Eisbock. I understand that the freezing will require the re-pitching of yeast. I was thinking of using 1/3 packet of Nottingham. The question is, when is the best time to add it. I...

    Going to try a Kistalllweizen

I have decided to try a kristallweizen. This was one of my favorites, from my years, stationed in Germany. I have included the recipe I intend to use. This is something I threw together myself after doing a bit of research. Please review and let me know what you think. Any advise is...

    Star-San Shelf Life

I was wondering if anybody knows how long a mixed batch of Star San will stay good. I mixed up a 5Gal batch this last weekend for my brew day and currently have the remainder, about 3.5 gallons in a 5 gallon bucket with a lid sealed on it. I was wondering if it is safe to keep in a food grade...

    New Stuff

Just got my shipment from Midwest. The Fermenting bucket lid sucks because there is no way it is ever going to seal. But everything else looks good. Promptly sanitized my new 2L flask, made a starter of 1200ml and pitched my WLP004 Irish Ale Yeast. Hope all works out so I can brew an Irish...

    Need advise on heating elements

I am considering an electrical brewing setup very simple. I was wondering if this was worth a crap or should I just go a different route. In a nut shell I want a pot to hold say 7 - 8 gallons of water to a striking temp, than I would transfer to an igloo type mash tun and then probably...

    REAL Beer bread

I know there are several threads about beer but I wanted to share this one with everyone. We tried it this weekend and the bread came out with an amazing texture and deep beer flavor, with a slight hop bite at the end. I started by pouring all of the left over stuff in the bottom of my...

    Begian Brewing Snow Days

As I popped into the beer store, I noticed a seasonal I have not seen before by the New Belgian Brewing Company, name Snow Days. I thought, fantastic, a new Christmas ale, so I decided to pickup a six pack. I open up a bottle after chilling to the recommended temp and BAM I had a nose full of...

    Newbie freaking out over yeast!

OK I am trying to use liquid yeast from white labs and I am starting to freak out because I see no activity. A bit of history first. I am on my 3rd batch of beer, again this will be an extract brew from a kit, but this time I chose to go with liquid yeast. The kit is a Fat Tire Clone from...

Need advise before 3rd batch is brewed

OK guys and gals I need some advice. I have brewed 2 batches of beer so far. I am preparing for my 3rd batch and need some advice. I will be brewing a Midwest kit "Flat Tire Clone." I chose the live yeast option and they sent a white labs yeast which is now in the fridge. I plan on using...
