All in one system 240v 50-60hz?

In the near future I plan to ditch my propane and go to a all-electric brew in a bag system. But a migration to the United Kingdom could be in our future, and I'd like to get a system that will run there as well as here in the US. Does anybody know from their own systems whether there are any...

    BIAB w/40% Rice

Looking for folks with actual experience brewing BIAB with high percentages of non-diastatic adjuncts. I brewed an american light lager with 57% floor malted bohemian pilsner malt, 3% acidulated malt, and 40% pregelatinized rice, total bill 7+pounds. Mashing lower - 149F - I got a failed starch...

Estimating Extract on Home Made Syrup

Am I wrong in thinking it should be this simple? Measured out 100 ml of home made syrup, put it on the scale, and minus the tare it weighed 142 grams. Thus the extract potential is 1.042. If I'm wrong, tell me why.

getting grains when batch sparging with SS false bottom and pump

For the first time in 21 years I gave batch sparging a whirl, for no other reason than to try it. On my three-vessel keggle system I fly sparge or partigyle, and then I also have a BIAB system. I use a chugger pump and a SS steel false bottom, and after vorlauf and collecting the first...

    BIAB Dunk Sparge & BeerSmith

I mentioned on another thread that I'm getting ready to brew a wheatwine, and that I am going to try a dunk sparge (for the first time) to increase the efficiency of this wheat-heavy, large grain bill. As I was tinkering with BeerSmith and trying to account for the volume of water I planned to...

    Simple RIMS setup

First, I apologize if this is an obvious question. I have been poking around the webs, but it gets way over my head really fast. I already have a propane direct fire insulated keggle mash tun, with male camlocks on the out and in ports. I use a chugger pump to recirculate when I am step...

    Gelation vs. Cereal Mash

Whenever I start poking around with non-enzymatic cereal grains in brewing that don't gelate at mash temperatures (rice, corn) I often come back to something I've never quite been able to wrap my head around. In order to break up the starch matrix of a high-gelation temp cereal grain, the...

Why, under the influence of barleywine, does this read as "Dry Humping"?

    Magnum substitute for festbier

Just like the title says, I'm trying to get away with not buying some hops and using what I have. It's a 80 minute addition, so just bitterness. The more neutral hops I have on hand are: Northern Brewer Colombus Sterling Centennial I'm leaning towards the Sterling first, then NB, but am...

I'm trying to figure out which set of numbers and letters represents the lot number on a bag of Pilsner malt from BestMalz, so I can get the lot analysis from CMG. Anyone have any clue? The printing on the bag is PO11025 0094 445323 P3,5.

    Carafa III special flavor threshold

Getting ready to make a black American Wheat, and using Carafa III special to get the color. Percentage-wise, how high have you gone before getting the roast flavors? And do you have a favorite way of extracting color without flavor? I'm thinking about a couple of options. One is to steep...

A quick primer for renewing the old debates in time for the newbies

Okay, with lots of new brewers finding us this time of year, let's make sure we're giving them the best, most consistent answers to their questions. To refresh your memory on what is right, please adhere to the following: Plastic buckets or carboys are the best fermentors. Glass will kill you...

    Homebrew Wimp

It's hard to admit, but today I am a homebrew wimp. I have the liquor drawn and the recipe & steps ready to go, but here I sit, procrastinating on HBT, because I brew in an unheated garage, and it's warmed up to 24F. I know you midwest and northeast brewers might consider this balmy this time of...

    How fast can you...

... make love? ... go fishing? ... watch a movie? ... drink a beer? If this seems like a stupid question, I pose that it is equally stupid to ask "Has fast can you brew?" as if brewing is so miserable that we need to do it in the least amount of time possible. If you want beer fast, go buy it...
