    (another) shout out to ritebrew

I'm also in Wisconsin, Milwaukee area. Since the Northern Brewer retail store in West Allis (aka Milwaukee) closed last August I had to find a new source, there are not a lot of homebrew stores remaining in the area. I've bee ordering from Wine and Hop shop out of Madison and have been very...

Minnesota NB and Midwest Stores Closing (Potentially affecting MN People)

Well this sucks. Been buying my grain and occasionally other brew supplies from the Milwaukee Northern Brewer store for years. They had good prices and nice setup grain room. Must be the summer of change, my gym closed all Wisconsin locations at the end of June. Annoying but still 1st world probs.

    Plastic growlers

Anybody have experience and recommendations for 1/2 gallon plastic growlers? I will be filling them from keg, beer already carbed, most likely no more than 48 hours and kept in a cooler filled with ice.

    Bar code generator

If you're looking to make your own labels it's as easy as finding a "3 of 9 barcode font" with google.

    Homemade PBW Recipe

Anybody know if these two are the same product? I've been using the second one for a few years now for this concoction. Purchased some last week and it arrived as the first pic. Not sure if it's the same.

Can I take my FV out of the chamber now?

If you pitch plenty of good, healthy yeast the fermentation and most flavors are mostly done by 5-7 days. Assuming you aren't going to let it sit at of 80F or 40F you can take it out of the chamber. As mentioned, warming up to upper 60's or low 70's might help it finish and cleanup. Why not...

    Oktoberfest Temp

I ferment at 51F until it get to about 75-80% (4-5 days), then d-rest 4-5 days, then keg and lager.

    Checking gravity

I check my beer's gravity twice, when I pitch the yeast, and when I transfer to keg. I used to do an additional check with lagers to see if they were ready for the d-rest. Eventually it got to the point I could count days since pitch and look at the kreusen and amount of activity in the...

fridge with an ice shelf (fermenting chamber)

I have a fridge I removed the ice shelf and wedged it on the back wall of the fridge. It holds one carboy for fermenting, and 2 kegs for kegerator. I use a temp controller to set the temperature, not the fridge controller.

    Issues with Lagers & Pilsners

Interesting, I was feeling a bit disappointed by this summers batch of lagers and light ales. All seemed to be lacking something in the hop flavor, all are tried and true recipes I've done for years. I quickly brushed it off as being due to the "hoptimus rex" brand hops which I've never used...

    P.I.D Settings help

From what I can tell, ABCD would be hardware dependent but most likely A = 3 B = 0 based on 1st post C depends on your sensor type D = 0 E = 1, assuming output on turns heat on (0% safety turns output off in the event of a sensor failure) F = 1, assuming you want cooling Group 1 SP.2 will be...

    P.I.D Settings help

That looks like a spec sheet, hopefully you have a manual to explain how to nav the setup menus and lists all options. For your needs it should be simple. Set sensor type Y1 heat Y2 cool Control on-off hysteresis 1%-2% should be good for typical ferment temperatures
