How much sugar for Jack Keller Peach Wine (2) recipe

Back in 2011 I made Jack Keller's peach (2) wine recipe. I've done some online digging, realize his website is down, he's passed away, and I can't find the recipe. My 2011 notes have an error, and I'm not sure where. for 5 gallons: 15lbs peaches 5 lbs bananas 15 lbs sugar Isn't this too...

How many bines for maximum height?

I’m growing hops in my back yard for shade. They grow up about 10’, then turn 90 degrees and grow parallel to the ground. I’d like them to get as long as possible. How many bines is recommended per plant if this is the goal? They’re 5 year old plants (2nd year in ground, first 3 were in...

    Growing hops FOR shade

Here's my short story. I live in Reno, Nevada. Our summers are hot (maybe up to 100 during the day, but normally 80's or 90's for a high). The house to the east just recently cut down all their trees. These trees provided a lot of privacy and shade for my yard. That's all gone. I'm...

Beer leaked from keg into kegerator

I'm posting this for a friend.......for real! I've made a fair amount of beer, and if it were me I'd dump it. However my friend is just now getting into brewing, and half of his FIRST BATCH EVER some some reason leaked out of the tap into the bottom of his kegerator. He asked me if he...

Looking for the right lager yeast

I'm hoping to try an interesting experiment. I'm looking for a lager yeast that: 1. Can handle a high gravity (>10%) 2. Ideally comes in dry form. Does anyone have any recommendations on a yeast like this?

Grain mill to also make flour

I have a Corona grain mill. I like it, I don't love it. I'm looking to roller mills but also want to be able to make flour and ideally corn meal. With the way I bake if the corn meal was more like flour that would be fine. Does anyone have a recommendation for a roller mill that can make...

    Help from Winnipeg homebrewers!

A home brewing buddy and myself are attending a wildlife conference in October 15-22 in Winnipeg this year. We understand Winnipeg beer is expensive! In the spirit of saving money, but mainly meeting new homebrewers, we would like to make arrangements/a trade. We could potentially...

Advice on how to prevent scorching on the bottom of a keggle?

I'm trying to raise the temp 20 or so degrees on my keggle after initial mashing. I scorch every damn time. Aside from babying the thing the whole time or buying another pot with a thicker bottom, what else can one do?

    Burner for 55 gallon drum

What would happen if you didn't boil your all grain batch at all?

I realize this isn't a good (at least tasty) idea. That said, what would happen if one did a single mash infusion, let it cool, and pitched yeast. I realize a boil does several beneficial things. So in short, if one just mashed in, collected, cooled, aerated, and pitched, what would happen...

Anyone ever force carb a keg of water?

I've been trying to get off soda (2-5 sodas a week but still) and have been enjoying sparking mineral water. All that said I'm cheap, and don't like buying stuff in packages if I can avoid it. I don't see any reason why I can't force carb a corny keg of water and hook it up to my...

Recommended pubs/microbreweries for London and Cape Town

I'm traveling to Cape Town, South Africa and have a 10 hour layover in London. Anyone have any microbreweries to see in London or Cape Town? Big Ben sounds great and all, but I'd rather sample fish and chips with a bitter. Any suggestions would be great.

Does a stir plate or aquarium speed up a starter?

I've got my starter going late. I normally just stir by hand now and again. If I put in an aquarium pump will it speed up yeast growth, or just make more yeast?

Does anyone else dislike Abbey ales?

I don't want to use the word hate since it's so strong, but dammit if I don't like Abbey ales. I'm sure I just don't know how to appreciate them, but they remind me of beers I've either underpitched the yeast or fermented too warm. On top of that a lot of them cost an arm and a leg. Anyone...

    Kegging in a Sanke keg

Has anyone ever done this? I want to make a 15 gallon batch of beer for a party, remove the sanke seal, add my beer and priming sugar, put the seal back on, and then use a hand pump to dispense beer. Is this doable?

Anyone use the diastalic power of grain to process unmalted grains?

I've been reading about the diastalic power of mainly barley, and how with proper heat it can convert the starches in unmalted grains. This has the potential to do two things: 1. Save money by buying unmalted grain. 2. Produce a beer with potentially new flavors. Anyone dabble in this?

Online calculator for FG with refractometer

I know there are a few online calculators out there for this. I'm curious if anyone has an opinion on their favorite? I'm trying to make some beers around 1.080 and get them as close to 1.0 as possible. Thoughts on which one is best?

    What's everyone's favorite oxygen pump/stone?

I'm not quite ready to have oxygen tanks around my house, but I would like to do a better job of oxygenating wort besides pouring and splashing. I'm getting into big beer and it just makes sense. I've listened to a fair amount of podcasts where aquarium pumps were used. I'm curious what...
