I've got my starter going late. I normally just stir by hand now and again. If I put in an aquarium pump will it speed up yeast growth, or just make more yeast?

your yeast growth is limited by the volume of the wort. the aquarium pump will not necessarily speed it up to my knowledge, but will contribute to increased yeast health. most of the growth in your starter should be done in about 18 hours i believe so if you are brewing tomorrow you shouldn't be in too bad of shape and your starter will still be very active when pitching which is always good.

A stir plate provides constant aeration and keeps the yeast in suspension. Rate of cell propagation is greater for this reason. The aquarium pump, for aeration, will do some of the work.
Sanitize the pump and aeration stone before you use it.
