42 gallons + Jim Beam Barrel = Awesome!!!

About a month ago,14 clubs in PA and NJ got together at Keystone Homebrew Supply in Montgomeryville, PA for the Barrel Brew Competition. My homebrew club brewed 42 gallons of 1.102 Kentucky Breakfast Stout. A month later, here I am racking 40+ gallons of 1.018 KBS to a Jim Beam Oak Barrel. It...

Cheers to my uncle Hank, may he rest in peace.

I got a phone call from my mother last night. I could hear in her voice she was very upset. I figured my dad, or my grandmother(both 82 years old..., don't ask) had passed. I damn near blacked out when she told me my uncle Hank had a massive heart attack and died. ****ing WHAT?!?!?!?!?! I...

Challenge. You decide what I brew.(Please)

As the title suggests, I have a bunch of stuff laying around that I want to brew with. The challenge is to put these together in some sort of way to make a good recipe. I'll be brewing in 36 hours. Please give me your suggestions. This will be a 10 gallon batch. I'd like to stick with the...

I'm headed to Indianapolis this week (No, not for the Super Bowl), I believe the East side of town, and was wondering where would be a good place to get good beer after work?

    Stuck at 1.070???

Brewed a belgian tripel last week, OG 1.100. Fermentation kicked off well enough that I needed a blowoff tube. aa few days later it settled down, and by yesterday, it seemingly stopped. I figured I'd take a reading to see where it was at. The hydrometer read 1.070. Same thing today...

    All grain brewing system

A friend of mine is selling his brewing system. He is moving to NC for a job and cannot take it with him, as he will be in an apartment for about a year. His system was featured in BYO's Drool Systems last year. Link Here. He is looking to get $1200 for it. I am trying to talk him out of...

44 gallon stout recipe...how's it look?

I will be doing a 44 gallon batch of stout and was wondering how this recipe looks. The plan is to split it up into eight 5.5 gallon fermentorfuls(?), keeping 3 and giving 5 to my fellow homebrew club members. I want everyone to be able to do different things with their wort. Will this do...

What is going on here?(Kegging issue)

I recently upgraded from a 3 way manifold to a 6 way manifold so I can keep all 6 kegs in the fridge on gas. At the same time that I upgraded, i put two newly filled kegs of ESB in there to carb up, using the set it and forget it method. About a week later, I pulled the handle to pour a glass...

    Beer keg in Northeast PA

I have a 13.2 gallon Newcastle Brown Ale keg I want to get rid of. It was abandoned by a distributor at a local bar(sat there for 2 years after many attempts to contact), so I don't want to hear any **** about it being stolen, or Karma, or burning in hell or whatever. I have it on craigslist...

    Homebrew beer dinner

A local retaurant, Aurants, in Duryea, PA, is hosting a homebrew beer dinner tomorrow with beers that my homebrew club has brewed. I have been to other beer dinners put on by them with commercial brews, and they have been nothing short of fantastic. Below is the menu for tomorrow's dinner. I...

What should I expect from Brett fermentation?

I pitched some Brett into a 1.070 ipa. What should the fermentation look like? The Brett was reclaimed from two bottles of victory wild devil. Should there be a krauesen, a pellicle, something else?

    question about using Brett

I'm thinking of brewing up an IPA using Brett(think Victory Wild Devil). I want to brew it on 8/16. It's for a beer dinner in mid-November. I've heard that brett is pretty slow to ferment. Do you think it will be finished in time for the dinner? I plan on kegging it, so that will cut out...

    Funny/amusing street signs thread

I thought I'd start a thread to post pictures of funny street signs or billboards you may have seen. Post 'em here. Please tell us where it was seen. I'll start. Here's one of a street sign in Oak Harbor, Ohio. I know, sometimes I'm 12 years old.

    Cheap Victory

While driving through Horsham, PA(Montgomery Co.), I passed by a pizza place advertising 6 packs of Victory for 7.99. Intrigued, I stopped in. Hop Devil, Prima Pils, Storm King Imperial Stout, and Golden Monkey Belgian Tripel were the sixers available. Needless to say, I dropped some coin...
