    Effect of Gypsum on yeast

I have an IPA in the fermenter right now and I used gypsum (1tsp in the mash and 1tsp in the boil) .Batch size is 22L. I have read quite a few articles on gypsum aiding flocculation and now I'm pondering two things : I used a high floc yeast: 1. Will gypsum cause the yeast to floc out early and...

    Plan for brewing long-expired kit

Subscribed. Now we wait...how did it smell?

Extract kit need extra pound of sugar. Is table sugar frowned upon for this?

1lb will give you a good boost, just add it at flameout, the residual heat is enought to kill the wild yeast, boiling it you lose the delicate flavor of the honey! Also go for orange blossom or something floral not your standard generic brand. Remember to cut back on your priming as well...

    Plan for brewing long-expired kit

My just realised my post could be read wrongly, I meant go ahead with brewing not boiling! Couldn't agree with you more, that's what I was preaching from my first post!

    Fantastic Nut Brown Ale

I cracked one open after two weeks in the bottle and although it had good carbonation, it was still a bit harsh. I let it sit for another two weeks in the cellar which is a bit cooler and we just finished about 6 liters of it over the weekend to rave reviews. Everything mellowed out and combined...

Also post the recipe for that stout so we can help. You might be watering down your beer or adding too...

    Plan for brewing long-expired kit

Why not, you will have beer doesn't matter what you do. I on the other hand would go a different route, I wouldn't boil the LME (it's going to come out even darker still), why not steep something like 100g crystal 40/60 and use that for your hop additions OR think about adding some DME...

    Extract Chocolate Honey Porter Help

Try something floral and sweet, like orange blossom (we get it at the supermarket here in South Africa) (worked well in my honey wheat beer). Like RM said add at flameout if abv isn't an issue. Just watch out to prime a bit less as per usual. I don't know why but my first batch came out too...

    Extract Chocolate Honey Porter Help

I could be wrong, but that's a lot of honey and you might overshoot your abv, like I said I may be wrong. Honey is 100% fermentable, the best examples I have tasted, the beer was actually bottled with honey, not used in primary or secondary. Hope this helps a bit.

    English Bitter recipe

I'm playing around with this idea. I know it's simple, but sometimes beer should be. 1 x 1.8kg Muntons Bitter Kit 500g DME 250g Crystal 60 (steep@68deg for 30min) 22L with a 5 liter boil Hop additions: 30g Fuggles for 30min , 10g at flameout should add another +-5 IBU to the kit...
