    Potentially under pitched lager

I brewed a lager on Thursday and made a 2l starter with 1 pack of yeast. I was shooting for an OG of 1.047 and sparged rather slowly and got an efficiency of 87% resulting in an OG of 1.060. My question is can I add more yeast after fermentation has begun? This was a 10 gal batch and split into...

Chest freezer in the Twin Cities MN

Looking to buy a chest freezer. I'd prefer if it could fit 4 corny kegs. Anyone selling a freezer or no where I can find one.

    Diagnoising astrigency issue

I got some competition scores back and one red flag that came up was mild astringency. I didn't catch it when I drank the beer. I've been looking up the causes and can't figure it out. For one, how much does one sparge with to over-do it? I do all grain and batch sparge. I mashed at 152-153 with...

Using a water filter housing as a hop rocket

I purchased a water filter from more beer. I found the deal on home brew finds. I am wondering if anyone has tried using the water filter housing as a hop rocket. I'd obviously remove the cartridge prior to filling it with leaf hops. I know many have used it as a randal before, despensing their...

    My new mini fridge kegrator

NordeastBrewer77 helped me build this one. Got the tin sign from a liquor store I work at. Didn't know what to do with at first but I found a nice place for it. Emptied the first keg within the first couple of weeks.

Recipe advice on a hoppy amber ale

I want to make a fairly hoppy amber ale. I am a huge fan of pales/IPA's and that's pretty much all I like. I don't enjoy very malty beers, but I do enjoy and amber. I haven't seen a whole lot of recipes around for this style. I have seen Jamil's hoppy amber recipe and the malt bill is a little...

Help woth serving line diameter and length

I have done a bunch of research and found myself becoming more confused with the more research I do. There are so many varying opinions about this subject. I'd be serving at around 40 F in my mini fridge with 2- 2.5 gallon ball lock kegs. I will be most likely serving around 10-11 PSI to achieve...

Good or bad idea to bottle after 12 days?

I made a pale ale on Nov the 2nd, OG of 1.051. I used wlp007 with a starter and the beer was finished and clear after 8 days. I racked it to a secondary fermenter to age and eventually dry hop. My question is should I dry hop it for a few days, cold crash, and then bottle it before I go on...

Chill haze- Bottled clear, pours hazy

This has started happening ever since I switched from extract to all grain. I've bottled cloudy extract beer, and after conditioning in the bottle it cleared out perfectly. Now since I have been doing all grain. I have bottled 3 batches in a row of clear beer, and after chilling its hazy. It...

The store is projected to open in early November. The address is 4135 Hiawatha Avenue Minneapolis. The store will be very similar to the Four Firkins, except they will sell wine and spirits as well. The main focus is beer. LOTS of beer. There will be mix and match 6 packs with COLD beer, as...

    Aerating wort with pure O2

I have recently started aerating my wort with pure O2 from an oxygen tank and the dual gauge oxygen regulator that came from a welding kit. How long do you aerate the wort for? Do you aerate it slowly or open it up quite a bit? I did for maybe 2 minutes and varied without the amount I was...

How long did it take before you swticher to all grain?

I understand there are some people out there who never brewed extract beer and jumped right into all grain, I applaud you. As for me, I brewed for 8 months and did 13 extract batches before jumping into all grain. How long did it take before you guys switched?

Hit OG and volumes on 3rd all grain batch and it feels good

All in all, it was a great brew day! Hit my OG on the nose. I was having issues with that with the first two. My efficiency has been a steady 67% which is good enough for me. I think the mill at Northern Brewer is doing an ok job, but could be better. Temp only dropped a degree throughout the...

How long do campden tablets take to remove chloramine?

Not sure if its the chloramine or chlorine that it removes but how long does the water need to sit before using it. I usually let it sit over night at an average of 18 hours or so. Is this long enough? Cheers!

We need a Woot style website, except with homebrewing supplies

For any of you who don't know what woot is, check it out http://www.woot.com/ They have daily deals, and a new item is up everyday. I think it would be sweet if they did this with home brewing supplies. I would buy a lot more brew supplies if this was a thing. What do you guys think?

Using an oxygen tank for welding to aerate wort

Is it necessary to use an In-Line Sanitary Filter when using an oxygen tank from a welding kit, or should I just stick with the micron filter only? I've seen oxygen kits that do and do not use these sanitary filters. I would hate to infect a beer when aerating with a tank that was filled who...

Advice you get from your LHBS may not always be the best advice!

I have been giving some great advice as well as terrible advice from my LHBS (Northern Brewer). I was talking to one of the managers and he was trying to tell me how I should not keep a beer in the primary for more than 1-2 weeks. If I learned anything from HBT, it is that leaving a beer in the...

Dry hopping with 4 oz of East Kent Goldings too much?

Any thoughts on this? I tried the remnants of a hydrometer test and it tastes very different than I was expecting. It has some what of a chocolate after taste, really having a hard time putting my finger on it. Its in the bottle now so we will see how it tastes once its carbonated. Never used...

Thoughts on how this recipe should taste

This is my first all grain recipe, an English india pale ale. It tasted very malty after primary, so I wanted to dry hop it to add some aroma to it. I'm not sure if 4oz was too much or just that I don't like EKG. But, it tasted way different. It almost had a chocolate after taste to it. Granted...
