How long to leave in carboy?

If you controlled ferment temperature and pitched the proper amount of yeast, there's no reason that 10 days shouldn't be sufficient. If you're not sure on either of the above, let it go 14-17. I generally go anywhere from 10-14 days unless I'm dry hopping. If you took care of temperature and...

Loosing too much heat in mash tun

I don't know how that would work either. I would get a smaller cooler or make a bigger beer (or batch of beer).

Loosing too much heat in mash tun

That seems like a very large cooler for such a small grain bill. I would lose a little bit in my Igloo 40 quart with that little bit of grain.

Michigan Single Tier 10 gallon Complete System

Wish I had some spare cash laying around. That's a steal, and not a very long drive for me. If you end up parting it out, I'd be interested in some of the Corny's if they're ball lock. Wish I could afford it all.

    Intertap beer faucets

Thank you! The shanks are 4 1/8" SS. The collar is 2 1/4" thick with the 2X8 inner board and 1X10 oak on the facing, so they fit perfectly.

    Show us your Kegerator

Finished this one a week and a half or so ago. 7 cu. ft. Idylis I got for free. Put an 8" collar on it to get the 5th corny on the hump. 25 gallons of craft homebrew in a 37"X22" footprint.

    Pros of kegging?

Pros- Faster, easier, less cleanup/sanitation, excellent storage times, takes less room than bottles, uniform and exact carbonation, faster. Did I mention faster? Did I mention WAY faster? :) Cons-cost of components, CO2 cost. I bottled for over a year before I started kegging some brews. I...

    Intertap beer faucets

Finally got mine installed in my new keezer setup. Love them. The quality is excellent. Man is it nice to leave the picnic faucets behind....this is just easier, cleaner and way more convenient. Turned a 7 cu ft. freezer into a 5 Corny keezer with an 8" collar. I get 25 gallons of home...

    Intertap beer faucets

I just ordered 5 from Williams. I'm putting together my keezer over the next 2-3 weeks. I was set on Perlick 630's, but these intrigued me enough, and the fact that I could save $50 for five faucets over the Perlicks at AIH was enough to make me a guinea pig...... I'll post when I get things...

    Using Keg as secondary fermenter

I have an RIS in secondary in a keg right now in the basement. It's been there since March. This is the second time I've done it and it works great. I purge the air with some CO2 after I seal it up, and no muss or fuss worrying about airlocks running dry or anything.

    Lawnmower recipe

Don't know if that one is worth making, but if you're looking for a great lawnmower recipe, look up Biermuncher's Centennial Blonde in the recipe section. A really easy drinking ale, and even the BMC crowd will like it.

    Amber Ale yeast?

It will work fine, I use it all the time to make my house amber.

    First Brew advice/comments

I only secondary to age a beer. Everything is done in primary (dry hops etc). Why risk the possible infection or oxidation?
