Please help me diagnose a problem with my old chest freezer that I use for a fermentation chamber. The other day I noticed it was not cooling sufficiently. The interior back wall where the coolant passes through is warm except for the top left corner. When I plug in the device there is a...
I make big blocks of ice in my chest freezer/fermentation chamber before brew day to use in my recirculating counter flow chiller.
However I need more ice surface area to make the water colder so I usually buy some bags of ice- that sucks. Why should I pay for frozen water? Does anyone have a...
Yeah, I actually poured off the "death star" like I was decanting- since it floated- and I looked at my doubled yeast and considered keeping the yeast and imagining I never saw anyone unusual... But then I reconsidered and flushed them away.
:(
Wife's going to Mich next weekend... So I'll try...
Update: it's officially an unidentified "floating" object! Sorry the other pic was so bad.
Can anyone identify if this is a mold or other infection? If I can't get a sure response I will just toss it.
I am stepping up the yeast from a 6er of bells two hearted. I'm concerned about infection because there is a spherical mass about half the size of a marble among the yeast. It looks like a cluster of yeast but I have never seen them together like that and I am concerned its another type of...

I have been brewing for a year without a chiller (ice baths and no-chill), but I have upgraded...

Thanks for the help. I love this site!
Currently I have a fermentation chamber (freezer) with a temp controller in the garage, but no brew belt or such a device to keep the conditions from getting too cold. I live in southern CA so it doesn't get too cold, but it dips below 60 degrees in the chamber at night.
I am upgrading the...
Last week I ordered a pound of whole centennial from hops direct for about $15! Just brewed a two hearted-ish beer. Cent is definitely one of the most tasty hops.
I am still in my first year of brewing and I have recently upgraded my kettle and purchased an outdoor burner for full-sized AG batches (5.5 for now) so there are no funds remaining for a fancy wort chiller so I am going to explore "no chill".
Every time I look for info on the HDPE containers...
