I’m still wandering through the Dark Forest of beers. My memory of Stone Arrogant Bastard was that of another darker, bigger, hoppier Ale. This beer sort of transcends categories. Color is brown-reddish like an Oud Bruin going on Flanders Red or an Irish Red Ale. Hoppiness is much higher however. Not really understanding this style, I found no more usable information from the Stone website – they have “Beer Style” and “IBU” listed as “Classified”. All I can tell you is it is big, it is filling and it is really hoppy.
My wife is a natural wine drinker, but when the box dries up and she is forced near my beer hoard, she picks Stone Arrogant Bastard. Maybe it is the color, but I think it is this “bigness” that reminds her of the wine she is being deprived of. She does say this beer fills her up though, this and a few snacks and she’s full, find your own dinner tonight!
Not me though, I could drink a gallon of this. Drinking is not the same as surviving however, a Saturday night gallon of this would wipe me out well into Sunday afternoon! Maybe Monday!
Decent head, fantastic lacing, 7.2% ABV, this beer lives up to its reputation as a heavy hitter. This seems about 9% ABV to me. Now what can I scrounge up for dinner? !!!
