The magnesium in my water supply is very high (around 80) .

Is there any way aside from starting from scratch with ro water to reduce this?

80 what? If that is mg/L it is indeed high. OTOH 80 ppm as CaCO3 isn't high at all.

Assuming it really is high then yes, about half of it can be removed by the lime based 'split' treatment.

Found the water report for my town and the pH is 7.7 Mg/L. If I understand this correctly, then my water is extremely acidic. Is that right?

pH is not measured in mg/L. It is measured in pH units (log of moles/L). And no, pH 7.7 implies that the water is slightly basic (has finite alkalinity) WRT pure water.

Ok. Thanks for the info. It also says that the water hardness is 93. What does this tell me?
