I made 1 gallon and used 3 pounds of honey. I used an OG calculator and it said 1.033. That seems a bit low. This is my first batch of mead, I usually make beer. Can anyone help me estimate my OG?

GotMead gives 1.108 SG.

Fun with math:
Honey is 82% sugar¹
82% of 3 lbs is 2 lbs 7 oz
This takes a total volume of 1 gal to 1.117 SG²

Of course, you could just use bernardsmith's simplified rule ;}

What calculator did you use?

¹ This number pulled from Wikipedia. GotMead defults to 79.6%, thus its lower estimate.
² Interpolation on Jack Keller's table (near bottom of page).

Oh and the manufacturer says they have a moisture content between 16% and 18.6%.

The calculator defaults to your stated SG. The SG field probably did not update after you entered water volume and honey weight.

Doh! As usual... Operator error. Thanks !
